Summer Camp is never complete without a Wild Edibles Cook-off 🌸

Campers are challenged to create a meal using plants they foraged. Meals are judged on not only taste, but also looks.

Foraging is such a great way to connect with nature but it takes some time to learn. Our incredible nature teachers know how to identify and use specific wild edibles safely. We always consult eachother and field guides and never eat something we’re unsure about.

An afternoon of tuning into the land and weaving voices together in song.

There’s a relationship between land and song that’s as old as time. Some say we learned to sing from the birds. Science tells us that whales pass down songs from generation to generation. Each time we open our windows, we can become present to the humming ‘choir of all beings’ that sings all around us.

In a time where many of us are awakening to the challenges faced by our more-than-human kin, how can we participate in this choir? And what possibilities open up when we do?

This song circle invites an exploration of:

Community Song
Singing together in the oral tradition is one of the most beautiful ways we can bring our hearts together. We’ll sing songs inspired by the more than human world, that weave harmonies, and poetry. No experience necessary- we will all sound beautiful together!

Singing the Land
We’ll drop into connection with the landscape and practice singing in response to or ‘from’ the different inhabitants of the ecosystem.

The title of this song circle is a nod to Joanna Macy whose work brings us into connection with the voices of the wild other. And in this circle we’ll gently explore this practice.

This afternoon is an exploration of the connection between song and landscape, together we will:

- Learn and sing community songs in the oral tradition as a group
- Drop-in through sensory awareness to the landscape
- Practice using our voices to sound and respond to the more-than-human world
- Share connection with each other and,
- Play with harmony,
- Welcome all experiences…laughter, tears, longing, grief, silliness, wonder.

Who is Carly?
As an eco-therapist and guide Carly supports people to be in conversation with the more than human world which, according to her, doesn’t just speak- it sings! Carly brings a soulful invitation to the song circles she facilitates and welcomes people’s full selves into the room~ mess, beauty and all.

One of our summer camp groups was working hard on their nature journals.

Participants were inspired by large trees and tiny bugs on leaves. Documenting nature this way helps us keep track of what we’ve seen and learned 🌻

A surprise deer encounter with our squirrels group. We were able to quietly watch as it crossed the path.

The deer taught us to be slow and careful with our movements. It showed us how to move through the woods so we wouldn’t scare other creatures on the path.

The group created “The Pine Path” to welcome their adults to celebrate the last day of camp.

Come join Earth Path Wakefield’s camp for boys!

This is an immersive nature experience for boys of all ages, led by long-time Earth Path educator, Cole McLaughlin. We will come together to develop meaningful relationships with the land and each other.

Activities will focus on nature stewardship, becoming tenders of fire and forest, listening and sharing stories, and playful adventure. We will build self-reliance within the framework of a collective team.

This is a small, intimate camp with the intention of fostering deep bonds with oneself, each other, and the natural world.

Week 3 of summer camp was all about becoming nature detectives 🔎

🛶 Participants had so much fun building boats to send down the creek. They did lots of detective work to figure out which natural materials would float and make the best boat.

💧 Things got a little muddy but that didn’t stop us from having the best time outside!

🌱 We also got a little silly in the meadow and created disguises out of plants.

🔥 A little rain didn’t stop us from making an epic fire.

The beauty of wildflowers will always be breathtaking 🌼

Interacting with any kind of plant teaches our participants how important they are to our ecosystem. If we didn’t take care of the land then there would be no more wildflowers.
