Today marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters
Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters began in Williams Lake, British Columbia, on September 30, 2013 to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and those who never returned home, it serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impacts of the Residential School system.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established in response to Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which called on the federal government, in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, to create a statutory holiday recognizing Survivors, their families, and communities while ensuring the history and legacy of residential schools are publicly remembered.
We encourage you to wear orange in honour of Residential School Survivors and their families, and in remembrance of the children who never returned home, and to participate in local activities and gathering organized to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools.

Let’s help our friends at the RCMP Heritage Centre make history!
The Heritage Centre is working to become a National Museum — which would make it only the third National Museum outside Ottawa/Gatineau, and only the second in Western Canada.
This designation would help bring more tourism, jobs, learning opportunities and, importantly, a place to share a fuller Canadian story — including our history, diverse voices, truths and the lessons that help us build a better future.
They’re aiming for 20,000 signatures from across Canada by October 12, and every individual signature counts!
