Every time you react, share, or comment on a post it adds "algorithm fuel". Most of my scrolling these days involves going directly to "block (so-and-so's) profile." You can find this option in the three little dots at the top right-hand corner.
Think before you add "algorithm fuel" to a post with a reaction, share, or comment on a post, especially if it is evocative. Ask yourself questions such as:
Do I have the energy, time, or ability to address this?
Is the source reputable? (Ad Fontes Media is a good place to start).
Do other credible sources confirm it? (Independent fact-checkers are a good start for this).
What is the actual evidence/argument? Is this actually supported? (This requires active reading/listening. Digest; don't just skim.)
What are my biases, and how can I minimize their influence?
Are there plausible alternative explanations, and are they addressed? (e.g., we know it is X instead of Y because of...)
Is the conclusion overreaching, exaggerated, weak, etc.?
Is the article/text fine, but the headline or image misleading?
Is there a post with a more accurate or more fair presentation that deserves our algorithm fuel?
If a correction is in order, how can I communicate it so it resonates with people?
These are just some of the questions we should ask ourselves before adding to a rage-fueled algorithm. That said, yes, I would ideally like to see social media platforms take better action against misinformation. I believe they make enough money to put in a better effort to balance accuracy with a flexible space for people to express themselves. I have some ideas, but they mitigate, not eliminate, the problem. In the end, we'll still need to use these critical thinking skills.

Oh I so hope this is a real trend...
They have quieted down, a lot...

You know who was at 9/11? Within an hour of the tower strike, Canadian firefighters were loading up gear to get to New York to help. In this photo: Ottawa crew - Brian Foley, Steve Carmichael, Gordie Thorpe and John Hamilton.
You know who didn't show up? Donald Trump.

BREAKING: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney just stood shoulder to shoulder with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and made it clear Ukraine has an ally who isn't backing down.
Carney appeared alongside Zelenskyy today, flanked by military vehicles, and delivered a message that couldn't be clearer.
"Ukraine will never submit," Carney said.
Think about the contrast here.
While Donald Trump has spent months waffling on Ukraine, cozying up to Putin, and leaving America's commitment to Kyiv in doubt, Carney showed up.
He stood next to Zelenskyy.
He said the words out loud.
Ukraine will never submit.
No hedging. No both-sides language. No mixed signals.
Just a clear, unambiguous statement of support from a G7 leader, delivered in person, while the United States sits on the sidelines under Trump.
Canada is stepping up where Trump won't.

I don't think it was a mistake that it's suggested that food is a basic right of everyone, that everyone should eat, and that we all eat should together every day. Shame on us that 25% of the world's population experiences food insecurity.
