October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we think the float tank might be the best place you've never thought to do a self exam.

If you've floated before, you know how precisely everything is felt in there. Every joint pop, every heartbeat, the silky warm solution against your skin. There is so much going on internally and it's easier to connect to it when there's nothing else competing for your attention.

That kind of stillness makes it easier to notice the small things. A changing mole, a new lump, a strange sensation that's been trying to get your attention for a while.

Rather than rushing through a shower feel-up, take your time in the tank. Ask your body questions and actually listen to the answers.

Your body is always talking. The float tank is one of the few places quiet enough to hear it. ๐Ÿ’™

If you've got spare earplugs kicking around at home, this is your sign to bring them back. We're running an earplug amnesty all through October, no questions asked.

Starting in November, if you forget your earplugs, a new pair will cost $2. Your first pair will always be free.

And here's the fun part: whoever returns the most earplugs this month wins a free float. Dig through your glove box, your junk drawer, your concert purse. You might be sitting on a winning stock pile.

Turns out most things work better after a little rest. Our phone needed a time out yesterday, and we're happy to report it came back refreshed and ready to take your calls.

We suspect the same approach would work for you too.

Turn yourself off for a while. Return rejuvenated. We'll be here when you do.

You might be surprised how smart, funny, and creative you are when there's no other distractions and no one else's opinions to filter your thoughts through. Is it time to get reacquainted with yourself?

Sponsoring Lynnea's candidacy with the Oliver Ambassador Program has been the highlight of the summer. If you haven't been following along, be sure to read the last newsletter for the grand finale.

Lynnea's journey has sparked a new initiative at oGoFloat, our Float Ambassador program. It celebrates and shines a light on floaters out in the community doing amazing things; being exemplary examples of how calm can show up powerfully in the world.

Learn all about it in the newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/ogofloat.ca/say-hello-to-lynnea-and-goodbye-to-endless-earplugs

[TW:ED] Iโ€™m not the only person who found self love and acceptance in the tank. A fellow floater, Emily Kate Noren, wrote a beautiful story about how floating was instrumental in helping her overcome an eating disorder. Thereโ€™s research to support floating as a credible ay floating could help so many young people in this regard (see below).

These salty zen dens have the power to make big, meaningful impacts in people's lives.

I get up every day passionate about floating because I truly believe floating could change the world. Why not start with teens, at a time when it's so crucial.

Borrow a hard copy next time you're in, or read the book at: https://emilykatenoren.wordpress.com/

School is back in session. How long before you're running on empty?

Teachers give everything. Every day, to everyone, all at once. The questions, the needs, the noise, the emotional load of an entire classroom of humans who are counting on you.

You deserve a room where nobody needs anything from you.

90 minutes of silence. No hands raised, no one calling your name, no one touching you or expecting a single thing. Just you, floating weightless in the dark, completely off the clock.

We see you, and we've got a discount with your name on it. Use code FloatSchool online to save $10 on your float, all year long.

You can't pour from an empty cup. Go refill. ๐Ÿ’™

Relaxing is a skill. Most of us were never taught it, and a lot of us are frankly terrible at it.

But here's the thing: the more you practice, the better you get. The first float might feel restless. The second one gets quieter. By the third, you start to wonder how you ever lived without it.

Your nervous system is learning. You're teaching it that it's safe to unwind, safe to let go, safe to just be still for a while.

That's not nothing. That's actually a superpower. ๐ŸŒŠ

Let's talk about boredom.

Not the kind we rush to fix with a screen or a schedule. The real kind. The sitting with nothing to do, staring at the ceiling kind.

That kind of boredom? It's actually doing something important.

It's where kids figure out who they are. Where imagination kicks in because it has no other choice. Where they discover what they actually like, what actually matters to them, what they want to do with an afternoon when nobody is telling them.

We've gotten really good at keeping kids busy. Overscheduled, overstimulated, and underwhelmed by anything that doesn't move fast enough.

Adults are now paying serious money for digital detox retreats just to remember what quiet feels like. What if we gave kids that gift before they forgot?

Some of the best stuff happens in the pause. In the nothing.

Float tanks are basically professional boredom. And it turns out, that's exactly what a lot of kids need. ๐ŸŒŠ
