Our vision: an environmentally healthy and sustainable community.

10/05/2026

A healthy local economy and a healthy local environment aren't competing priorities, they're deeply intertwined.

Sustainability doesn't have to mean a massive overhaul of a business’s operations: it can start with upgraded lighting, rethinking packaging, or supporting staff who bike to work. One step, shared with others, can help contribute to a regional shift.

Brenda Whitehead believes that's how business communities can grow green together.

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. It’s a time to remember the children who never returned home from Residential Schools, and to honour survivors and their families.
Reconciliation is rooted in the courage to listen, the humility to acknowledge past and ongoing harms, and an unwavering commitment to upholding the truth while confronting denialism in all forms.

GreenUP stands in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples today and every day, committing ourselves to the essential, ongoing work of truth-telling and meaningful reconciliation.

Our office is closed today so that staff can observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Here are a few ways to show your support:

🟠 Learn about the 94 Calls to Action (CTAs), actionable policy recommendations created by the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. https://nctr.ca/about/truth-and-reconciliation-commission-of-canada/

🟠 Learn about the treaties that apply where you work and where you live. Treaties are agreements made between the Canadian government and Indigenous groups that define ongoing rights and obligations. You can start by looking online for a map of Ontario treaties. https://www.ontario.ca/page/map-ontario-treaties-and-reserves

🟠 Wear an orange T-shirt to show solidarity. "Every Child Matters" T-shirts raise awareness across Canada about the Indian Residential Schools and their continuing impacts on survivors, their families, and communities. Be sure to purchase yours from an Indigenous-owned business.

🟠 Honour those impacted in a way that's meaningful to you. Listen to the stories of Elders, educate yourself, and pledge to remain committed to Truth and Reconciliation year round. What's most important is that participation is ongoing.

GreenUP staff had the opportunity to catch up with a lovely couple, Shannon & Daniel, who had their wedding photos taken at Ecology Park last June. They were kind enough to share these stunning images by Alastair Macpherson. He really captured how beautiful and romantic this little natural oasis can be.
