Business owners: October isn’t just about pumpkin spice and planning for year-end! 🎃📊

If your business has employees, there’s an important CRA deadline coming up: 📅 October 15 = payroll remittance deadline for qualifying quarterly remitters.

If you’re a quarterly remitter, your July–September payroll deductions are generally due to the CRA by October 15.

And here’s the part many business owners overlook 👇

💰 Payroll deductions aren’t your money.
Amounts withheld from employee pay for income tax, CPP and EI need to be remitted to the CRA according to your assigned remitter schedule.

Missing a deadline can lead to:
⚠️ Penalties
⚠️ Interest
⚠️ Cash-flow surprises
⚠️ Unnecessary CRA headaches

👉 TAX TIP: Don’t assume your business is automatically a quarterly remitter. Your remitter frequency is based on factors including your average monthly withholding amount and compliance history.

📌 Take a minute this week to:
✅ Check your CRA payroll account
✅ Confirm your remitter type
✅ Review your October deadline
✅ Make sure you have enough cash set aside for the remittance

A little planning now can save your business a much bigger headache later.

🚨 MYTH BUSTER: “I can wait until year-end to think about taxes.”

If tax planning only happens when it’s time to file, you may be planning too late.

For business owners and professionals, tax planning should be an ongoing conversation — not a once-a-year scramble. 📊

Here’s why:

💰 Cash flow matters
Knowing your potential tax obligations throughout the year can help you avoid an unexpected tax bill and plan your cash flow accordingly.

📅 Tax instalments can come into play
Depending on your situation, you may have tax instalments throughout the year. Waiting until year-end doesn’t make those obligations disappear.

🧠 Timing can matter
Changes in income, expenses, investments and your business can affect your tax picture. Reviewing your numbers during the year gives you more time to make informed decisions.

📈 Your business is changing all year
If revenue is growing, expenses are shifting, you’re investing back into the business, or your personal financial situation is changing, your tax strategy may need to change too.

The goal isn’t simply to “pay less tax.” It’s to understand what’s coming and make informed financial decisions before deadlines are staring you in the face.

What if your mortgage could help build your wealth? 🤑

Most homeowners make a mortgage payment every month.

But what if you could use your home equity to invest and potentially make the interest tax-deductible? 👀💸

That’s the basic idea behind the Smith Manoeuvre.

💰 Pay down your mortgage
🔄 Re-borrow available equity
📈 Invest the borrowed funds
🧾 Potentially deduct qualifying interest
🏠 Use the strategy to help accelerate mortgage repayment

Sounds simple—but there are important rules, risks and tax considerations.

The Smith Manoeuvre isn’t for everyone.

The real question is: could it make sense for you?

💰 TAX TIP TUESDAY: WHAT COULD THE PRODUCTIVITY MEGA DEDUCTION MEAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Planning to invest in new business equipment? A proposed tax change could have a significant impact on tax timing and cash flow.

💻 Computers & Technology
Qualifying laptops, computers and other depreciable technology could potentially be eligible for immediate expensing.

📱 Business Phones
Potentially, yes — but business use and personal use matter. The full cost isn’t automatically deductible.

🎥 Media Equipment
Photographers, videographers, content creators and marketing agencies may want to pay attention. Cameras, audio, lighting and editing equipment could potentially qualify, depending on the CCA classification and other rules.

🚗 What about vehicles?
⚠️ This is more complicated. Certain vehicles in CCA Classes 10 and 10.1 are excluded from the proposed measure, so “new car = 100% write-off” is NOT a safe assumption.

💰 WHY IT MATTERS
The potential benefit is tax timing. If eligible, an investment could potentially be deducted in the year it becomes available for use rather than over multiple years.

For example, a $20,000 qualifying equipment purchase could potentially mean a $20,000 deduction in that year.

Just remember: a deduction isn’t the same as getting the purchase price back. Your actual tax savings depend on your income, tax rate, business structure and the specific asset.

📅 The Government of Canada has proposed the Productivity Mega Deduction for most eligible depreciable property acquired on or after September 15, 2026. Detailed legislation will determine eligibility.

👀 Planning a major business purchase?
Before you buy, talk to your accountant about the timing and tax treatment.

🚨 Canadian Business Owners: A Major Tax Change Could Be Coming!

The Government of Canada has proposed the Productivity Mega Deduction — a permanent expansion of immediate expensing to encourage investment in equipment, technology and other capital assets.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

💰 What is it?
Businesses could immediately deduct the full cost of many eligible depreciable capital assets in the year they become available for use, instead of claiming the deduction over multiple years through the regular CCA system.

📅 When would it apply?
The proposal would generally apply to eligible property acquired on or after September 15, 2026.

📈 What’s changing?
The government estimates that about two-thirds of investment in capital assets could qualify for immediate expensing — up from roughly 15% under the Productivity Super-Deduction announced in Budget 2025.

🏭 What could qualify?
Many types of machinery, equipment, technology and other depreciable capital property.

⚠️ Not everything qualifies.
Exclusions include most Class 1 and Class 3 buildings, goodwill, franchises and licences, certain vehicles, and other specified property. Special rules and restrictions may also apply.

📊 Why does it matter?
Accelerating tax deductions can improve cash flow and potentially support investment in equipment, technology and expansion.

The government estimates the proposal would reduce Canada’s marginal effective tax rate on new business investment from 13.0% to 6.4%.

💡 What should business owners do?
If you’re planning to purchase equipment, technology or other capital assets, consider:

✅ Whether the asset qualifies
✅ When it will be acquired and available for use
✅ What CCA class applies
✅ Whether restrictions or special rules apply
✅ How the purchase fits your tax and cash-flow strategy

At Titanium HQ, we help GTA business owners understand tax changes and make informed financial decisions.
