Being a bandwagon fan is one thing. Being a bandwagon investor? That could cost you. 🏈📈

Mike might not be from Buffalo, but he’s raising the next generation of Bills fans. And while cheering for your team is all about emotion, your investment strategy shouldn’t be.

It’s tempting to jump into whatever stock or fund had a great year. But by the time everyone is talking about it, you may have already missed the biggest gains.

The goal isn’t to predict next year’s winner. It’s to build a portfolio that makes sense for YOUR goals and stick with a strategy you believe in, even through the losing seasons.

Because building wealth isn’t about jumping on the bandwagon. It’s about having a game plan.

💬 Not sure if your investments are following a strategy or just following the crowd? Send us a DM. Let’s talk.

10% and $10,000 might be mathematically equivalent—but they don’t always feel equivalent.

That’s one of the challenges with understanding your investment risk tolerance.

It can be pretty easy to check a box saying you’d be comfortable with a 10%, 20% or even 30% market decline.

But when your portfolio gets larger, those percentages turn into some pretty meaningful dollar amounts.

And seeing those dollars disappear from your account—even temporarily—can make risk feel very different.

Good financial planning isn’t about eliminating market volatility. It’s about understanding how much risk makes sense for your goals and building a plan you can stick with when markets inevitably have a bad day, month, or year.

There’s no shortage of opinions about what you should be doing with your money.

Save more. Invest differently. Buy a house. Don’t buy a house. Use this strategy. Avoid that one.

Some of that advice may be well-intentioned. Some of it may even be good advice.

But good advice for someone else isn’t automatically good advice for you.

The same goes for choosing a financial advisor. Their role shouldn’t be to hand you someone else’s version of financial success. It should be to understand what matters to you and help you make informed decisions that move your life forward.

Listen to the advice. Ask questions. Then make the choice that fits you.

How does your financial professional get paid? If you’re not sure, it’s worth asking.

Commission, fees, salary—or a combination—the payment structure can influence the advice and services you receive. A good advisor should be able to explain their compensation clearly, without the financial jargon.

Understanding how they’re paid isn’t awkward. It’s transparency around making an informed decision about who you trust with your money.

One of the biggest misconceptions in personal finance is thinking one “financial advisor” can answer every money question.

In reality, different professionals specialize in different areas.

✔ Financial planning
✔ Investing
✔ Insurance
✔ Taxes
✔ Mortgages
✔ Legal planning

The trick isn’t finding *someone*.

It’s finding the *right* someone.

Not everyone who talks about money does the same job. Before you take financial advice,
understand:

who you are talking to

how they are paid

what they are qualified to do

and

whose interests they are serving.

This month we will be explaining the differences of valuable professionals to help you know who to ask which is just as important as knowing what to ask!

Many families have turned to GoFundMe during some of the hardest moments of their lives. When medical bills, lost income, and everyday expenses pile up, asking for help can be the only path forward—and there’s no judgment in that.

This conversation isn’t about criticizing those who needed support. It’s about helping more people avoid being in that position if they have the opportunity to plan ahead.

In Canada, our healthcare system covers many medical costs, but it doesn’t replace your income if you’re unable to work. That’s where disability insurance and critical illness insurance can make a meaningful difference.

The goal isn’t to buy a policy because of fear. It’s to understand what would happen financially if your paycheque stopped.

If you’re not sure what your income protection gap looks like, send me a message. In about 15 minutes, we can map it out together so you can make informed decisions—no pressure, just clarity.

The biggest shift happens when you stop trying to control everything—and start focusing on what you actually can.

You can’t control every diagnosis, every market swing, or every unexpected expense. But you can influence your habits, your mindset, your preparation, and the choices you make every day.

Your health and your finances have more in common than you might think. Small, consistent decisions today can create stronger outcomes tomorrow. Accept what you can’t change. Take ownership of what you can. That’s where real progress begins.

What is one thing you can control today that your future self will thank you for?

Most financial anxiety comes from confusing what we can control with what we can’t.

Control what you can. Accept the rest.

Happy Canada Day!

Today is a reminder that we’re lucky to call a country like this home—not because it’s perfect, but because it’s full of opportunity, resilience, and people looking out for one another.

Whether you’re spending the day at the cottage, around the BBQ, or watching fireworks, I hope you get a chance to slow down and enjoy it.

And if this year has you thinking a little more about your future than your next long weekend, that’s okay too. Building a financial plan is really about creating more freedom to enjoy moments like these.

Have a safe and happy Canada Day! 🍁
