And really… Scouten orange is basically the best fall colour. 😎🍁

🏗️ Construction Appreciation Week is here, and we’re giving a big shout-out to the people who help bring projects to life.

At Scouten Engineering, we get to work alongside some pretty incredible contractors, trades, crews, suppliers, operators, and project teams — the people solving problems, working safely, and keeping things moving in the field. 👷

A special shout-out to PRD Construction Ltd. , Western Industrial Contractors Ltd. and Datoff Bros. Construction, along with all the great teams we have the opportunity to work with. 👏

Engineering may help shape the plan, but construction is where it all comes together.

To everyone out there building, coordinating, problem-solving, and putting in the work every day — thank you for everything you do. 🤝

Today, we’re celebrating the grandparents who have helped shape the people on our team.

Their stories, encouragement, humour, hard work, and life lessons have been passed down through generations — and many of those lessons stay with us in the way we support one another and approach our work today.

We’re also proud to have a grandparent right here on the Scouten team, carrying those traditions into another generation. Can ya guess who it is?

What’s a lesson or piece of advice from a grandparent that has stayed with you?

🚸Back-to-school season is here, and our neighbourhoods are getting busier again.

As students return to school, more children will be walking, cycling, crossing streets, and travelling through our communities each day. 🏫

At Scouten Engineering, safety is part of how we think about the places people use every day — from roads, sidewalks, and crossings to the buildings and structures that support our communities.

A few simple reminders can make a big difference:
• Watch for school-zone signs and posted speed limits
• Slow down around schools and crossings
• Allow extra time during drop-off and pick-up periods
• Stay alert for children walking or cycling

Thoughtful civil and structural design helps create safer places. Keeping those places safe takes all of us.

Slow down, stay alert, and help make every trip to and from school a safer one.

Fall is the time to get ahead of a Northern BC winter. 🍂

Before colder conditions arrive, homeowners, businesses, and property managers have an opportunity to review how their buildings, systems, and surrounding properties are prepared for freezing temperatures, snow, and ice.

A fall/winter-readiness review can include:
🔥 Heating and mechanical systems
💧 Water lines vulnerable to freezing
🏠 Roofs and drainage
⚠️ Snow and ice management
🌲 Trees and branches that may pose a risk to buildings, vehicles, or access areas
💡 Power-outage preparedness

As the unofficial end of summer arrives, Labour Day gives us an opportunity to recognize the people whose skill, dedication, and hard work help build the communities where we live, work, and grow. ☀️

Labour Day was created to honour workers and the progress made toward safer workplaces, fair working conditions, and greater respect for the contributions of working people. It is a reminder that every successful project is made possible by the people behind it.

From the office to the field—and everywhere in between—we’re grateful for the engineers, technologists, drafters, contractors, tradespeople, project teams, and support staff who keep projects moving across Northern BC and beyond.

This is also a chance to step away from the drawings, tools, emails, and deadlines, enjoy one more taste of summer, and take a well-earned break. 🌲

☀️ It’s the last Monday of August—and somehow summer is already preparing its close-out documents and running out of energy.

The long days are getting shorter, the mornings are getting cooler, and projects across Northern BC are entering that familiar “let’s get this wrapped up before fall” phase. If you are in Northern BC, you just know that this timeline is tight.

At Scouten Engineering, we’re still making the most of every remaining summer day—advancing designs, completing field reviews, solving site challenges, helping projects move forward, and even taking on new projects in our sleep. 🦺

Here’s to a strong finish to August, a few more sunny days, and plenty of good work still ahead.
