Project Manager I Jenny Davy's photo was selected as this year's winner in the Landscape Category of our annual photo contest.

Each year, employees submit photos captured during the spring and summer seasons. While the competition is always tough, only one photo can take top honors in each category.

Jenny's winning image was taken in the alpine region near Tatla, B.C. The breathtaking view serves as a reminder of the remarkable places our work can take us.

Standing up to 16 feet tall, invasive Phragmites can transform entire shorelines and wetlands. Its dense stands crowd out native vegetation, reduce wildlife habitat and biodiversity, restrict water flow and access, and increase fire risk.

These photos showcase some of the work underway to manage invasive Phragmites, including water level inspections, second pass treatment, brush saw training and application, all aimed at protecting and restoring Ontario's natural ecosystems.

Project Manager II and Senior Qualified Assessment Environmental Specialist Victor Ladipo led total suspended solids and turbidity correlation curve training, an important process that helps translate water quality data into meaningful information for regulatory reporting.

The best part? Seeing our Environmental Technician and Intermediate Environmental Professional successfully complete the training activities on their own, showcasing the confidence and technical skills gained through hands-on learning and professional development.

The changing season brings changing hazards. Taking a few moments to identify risks before starting work can help ensure everyone returns home safely at the end of the day.

🐝 Watch for Stinging Insects
Yellow jackets and wasps are often more aggressive in late summer and early fall. Before entering dense vegetation or beginning work, scan the area for nests and insect activity. If a nest is identified, stop work and establish a safe zone before proceeding.

🕷️ Protect Yourself from Ticks
Ticks remain active throughout the fall season. Wear long sleeves and pants when practical, use insect repellent according to label instructions, and perform a thorough tick check after working in brush, tall grass, or wooded areas.

🦌 Be Visible During Hunting Season
As hunting seasons begin across many provinces, crews working in rural and wooded areas should increase visibility. Wear high-visibility apparel, make your presence known when entering remote work areas, and stay aware of nearby hunting activity when working near public lands or recreational areas.

A great example of what collaboration can achieve👏

Together with Let's Plant Trees and the Tłįchǫ Government, we helped plant 425,000 spruce seedlings over two weeks in the Northwest Territories. This work supports the Tłįchǫ Government's goal of planting 13 million trees across its lands by 2030, helping restore ecosystems and boreal caribou habitat while creating local employment opportunities and supporting long-term environmental stewardship.

We're grateful to be part of a project that is making a lasting impact for both communities and the landscape.

Congrats to Victor Ladipo on a well-deserved achievement!

Victor was recently recognized for exemplary environmental leadership and technical excellence in the field by the Alberta Environment and Protected Areas Environmental Inspector on a major Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors infrastructure project in Central Alberta. His effectiveness in the fish salvage program, cofferdam performance, and SRG's water quality monitoring methodology, field procedures, and data collection systems represent SRG at the highest level of environmental practice.

Recognition of this nature is meaningful as it comes from regulatory experts observing environmental performance firsthand in active construction environments. It reflects not only Victor's technical competence, but also a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, practical problem-solving, and collaborative project delivery.

🌲 Meet Victor Ladipo

From studying fish populations and aquatic ecosystems to leading environmental compliance on some of Western Canada's largest projects, our featured employee has built a career around creating real-world environmental impact.

With two master's degrees in marine and freshwater fisheries management, Victor started his journey in environmental science before transitioning from regulatory oversight into project leadership. Today, he helps balance responsible development with environmental protection across industries including pipelines, mining, LNG and transportation.

What excites him most? Solving complex environmental challenges, driving continuous improvement and helping projects succeed while protecting the environment.

Outside of work, Victor enjoys traveling, volunteering, golfing, gardening and meeting new people.
