If you think an eye exam is only about checking whether you need glasses- Think again!
A comprehensive eye exam can do much more than test your vision. We can check the health of your eyes and look for early signs of conditions that may not cause noticeable symptoms at first, such as...
• Changes in vision
• Glaucoma
• Cataracts
• Retinal changes
• Diabetic eye disease
Your eyes can tell us a lot about your overall health, sometimes before you notice anything is wrong. When was your last comprehensive eye exam?

If you haven't met Dr. Jennifer Wilczek, you haven't met the heart behind Parker Optometry! 💙
Born and raised in PG, she serves the community that built her. Her high school, Duchess Park, is actually just around the corner from us.
After graduating, she began her post-secondary education at UNBC before transferring to UBC, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences. She went on to study Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.
After graduating with her Doctorate in Optometry, she returned home to Prince George and joined the eye care team at Parker Optometry, where she now owns and runs the practice. Talk about full circle!
Now that you know a little bit about Dr. Wilczek, you'll have to see for yourself the care and knowledge she shares with every patient that walks through our door.

September is Cortical Visual Impairment Awareness Month. 👁️
One common misconception about our vision is that our eyes are the only factor effecting our eye sight- in reality, our brains play a huge part in helping us interpret and make sense of what we see.
Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a brain-based visual impairment that occurs when the areas of the brain that are responsible for processing visual information are affected in some way.
CVI can effected everyone differently which means there are a wide variety of signs; including difficulty finding objects in a busy enviroment, challenges with visual attention, sensitivity to light, or difficulty recognizing familiar faces.
This month we encourage you to learn more about Cortical Visual Impairment because the more awareness, the more we can improve early recognition and support.

Sunglasses aren't just for sunny summer months, they are a year-round investment! 😎
Your eyes can get sunburned too, especially from the glare of snow, sand or water... which can snowballs into a host of health problems.
No pun intended!
Regularly wearing sunglasses protects your eyes from not only painful burns but also developing cataracts, macular degeneration, and certain skin cancers around the eyes.
Just make sure your sunglasses are able to actually filter UV rays. Anything labelled UV400 will be able to block 100% of harmful UVA and UVB light rays up to 400 nanometers. Sunglasses without UV protection can actually cause your pupils to dialate, letting in more UV rays that normal. It's important to pick your protection with care. ✨

Yes, it's back-to-school season.
No, that whiteboard isn't supposed to be blurry.
School is often what raises alarm bells for parents and teachers, encouraging students to come in for an eye exam. Kids spend long hours reading small print, looking at screens, and shifting their focus from up-close desk work to far away boards. This can bring issues to the forefront you didn't know existed.
Between our Kindergarten patients coming in for the first time, or your teenager's increased workload causing sight fatigued... we'll be ready to welcome you in!
