Qualicum First Nation Culture Kit Program

The Print Expo is so big we only got through one hall today. Tomorrow we will see all the exhibitors in the North hall. There are hundreds of exhibitors and tens of thousands of people. So many good ideas for new resources and equipment how to make them. We will definitely be leveling up our creative process. Can't wait to use our new UV printer and other new purchases to make awesome new resources for our program and conference.

This conference has been such a great experience and learning opportunity for the staff. We are bringing back so many good ideas to use in our program. The site visits were so educational. Such an enriching experience.

Our workshop presentation today was so popular people were overflowed into the hallway. Huge shout out to all our program staff at home that couldn't join us here - Cayla, Tammy, Jenny, Dylan, Margaret, Cori, Rhiannon, Megan and Jennifer and to the staff that presented Liz, Andrea, Tanya and Judy. Your hard work creating our program resources is so appreciated and the participants in the workshop were in awe of all we create. Fantastic job everyone!

Thank you to everyone for coming to our successful open house. Thank you to Brian Wilson and Mahatta for the cedar weaving. Thank you to Bill Helin for the drumming sessions. All workshops were well attended! We have a couple of kits still available for educators to book in Nanaimo and Parksville/Qualicum areas. We look forward to another year of our kits being in daycares and schools!

We are all set up for Open House today from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Remember to bring cash for the garage sale (or etransfer). You can also buy a a tin for $5. Every tin contains a prize!! We will be giving out the classroom sets of orange shirt backpack tags. These are limited quantity and are first come first serve. The free cedar basket making workshop is from 3:00 - 5:00 pm for up to 30 people. We also have devils club bracelets and mini drum making workshops. We have two drumming workshops as well. See you there!

The staff have been busily preparing this year's activity for Orange Shirt day. Pick up your classroom sets of 22 backpack charms at the Open House on September 2nd. Each child will get a wooden shirt to color orange, a key chain to bead, a felt orange heart and an orange fur pom pom to hang together on their backpack. Teacher's will receive teaching materials for Truth and Reconciliation day and a book to read to the children. Classroom sets are limited quantity and will be handed out at Open House till we run out.

We are very grateful for Monique Gray Smith for coming and collaborating for creating resources for the Together We Are Kind Kit. Be on the look out for all new resources connected to some of her books.

We have been hard at work this summer on the North expansion kits and getting our local kits ready for the school year.

This summer has been full of learning new skills to add to our resources.

We had Doug Reid come and teach us how to make drums! We made devils club bracelets, lanyards, mini drums and we learned how to work with resin.

We have been enjoying this summer and learning new skills.
