What happens when jewelry becomes more than something you wear? ✨

In Part Two of our series with Brenda Schweder, we’re taking a closer look at the evolution of her found-object jewelry—and how some of her favorite pieces were transformed to live two lives: as wearable art and as sculpture.

Because why should a beautiful object have just one purpose? Brenda’s work blurs the line between jewelry, art, and collected objects, creating pieces that are just as captivating sitting on display as they are worn.

Stay tuned for Part Three, where we go even further behind the scenes of Brenda’s creative world.

Artist and teacher Gail Rieke has spent years evolving her Santa Fe home, studio, and gallery into what she lovingly calls an “incredibility museum.”

Her collages, assemblages, and installations have taken her work from her studio in New Mexico to museums, galleries, and public art spaces across the country and around the world. But perhaps the most interesting part of her practice is what happens in the quiet moments between creating, when a piece is still waiting to reveal what comes next.

“Many pieces patiently awaiting completion grow in the way natural things develop. I have the luxury of waiting and listening to each unique configuration until I discover the missing piece of the puzzle.”

A reminder that sometimes the best part of the creative process is simply giving the work time to speak: https://womencreate.com/gail-rieke/

What happens when you slow down enough to really see?

In the newest episode of the Women Create Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Susan Harold sits down with California artist Elizabeth Barlow (Elizabeth Barlow Artist) to talk about flowers, devotion, meditation and the quiet power of creating slowly.

Known for her larger-than-life, hyper-realistic flower paintings, Elizabeth sees flowers as symbols of re-emergence and transformation. She shares how meditation shapes her creative practice, why she considers herself devoted rather than simply disciplined, and the story behind Transfiguration, her recent commission for All Saints’ Episcopal Church.

A palette worth waking up for. 🌅

With more than four decades in residential design, Ellen Cashman has always had an eye for the interplay of color, texture and light. Today, she brings that same sensibility to her bead art, finding endless inspiration in the world around her.

“My day starts early with the multitude of colors and textures in the sunrise—intense burning gold, peach, lavender, white clouds lined with gray, and multiple shades of blue.”

Nature, after all, may be the original color story: https://womencreate.com/ellen-cashman/

Some creatives don't follow trends—they cultivate a point of view. ✨

For Rachel Calvelli, founder and creative director of Simplicity in Mind, every floral installation is more than beautiful blooms. It's a carefully layered story, where florals, styling, and set design come together to create immersive, unforgettable experiences rooted in the seasons.

"It’s looking back and realizing I diluted my vision to make it more comfortable. I don’t want to build something safe. I want to build something distinct. Layered. Intentional. Work that translates across venues and landscapes but always feels unmistakably mine."

The moment you stop creating for comfort is often the moment your best work begins: https://womencreate.com/rachel-calvelli/

The simplest moments often make the most beautiful art. 🍋🎨 Rachael Reese captures the color, warmth, and joy of food and gathering around the table, turning everyday scenes into vibrant paintings you'll want to step inside.

"My motivation as an artist continues to stem from being in a supportive local community of independent female entrepreneurs."
