Combustible dusts can be created during many processes, like cutting, grinding, sanding, polishing, mixing, or handling dry materials.

️New combustible dusts safety requirements take effect January 4, 2027. These updates may affect workplaces in food manufacturing, plastics and rubber, metal machining and finishing, agriculture, recycling, and other industries.

How is tower crane safety improving in B.C.?

Our tower crane safety strategy focuses on inspections and enforcement, training and certification, regulation and standards, and partnerships and engagement to strengthen safety across the province.

Here’s a snapshot of the progress:

🏗️ 373 active tower cranes currently operating across B.C.

🔎 1,300 tower crane inspections completed in 2025, with 373 more completed in Q1 2026

👷 50% drop in provisional tower crane operators from 2024 to 2026, supporting safer crane operations across the province by increasing the proportion of fully qualified operators, improving consistency in operator competency, and strengthening oversight of high-risk tower crane activities.
