In honour of National Indigenous History Month 2026 (NIHM 2026), nistam athisthiniwak osihchikīwiniwāwa (First Peoples Creating) showcases Indigenous voices and stories through music. We've asked Indigenous artists from all around Saskatchewan to curate music playlists that promote a mixture of both Saskatchewan Indigenous as well as International Indigenous music.

This is 1 of 4 different artist curated playlists that will be released for NIHM 2026. We encourage you to listen to the other playlists as they are released and to continue to support Indigenous music!

Meet LILI, nehiyaw iskwew, indie pop musician, singer and guitarist hailing from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan. She is a dream walker with a passion for writing catchy hooks and songs based on love, loss and perseverance. LILI began her career at 17 as a back up vocalist for her mother Violet Naytowhow. Her first songs were poems written in journals at 12 years old and were her only outlet for expression as she navigated moving and changing multiple homes. She now teaches youth how to find their voice and express themselves through writing and singing
workshops.
She was featured with Lancelot Knight in the song "Six Underwater" which is on the Sirius XM Indigiverse and continues to collaborate with artists as it is one of her favorite aspects of creative artistry. Her solo releases have been received beautifully and are a testament to her long career as a solo performer. She has written all her own lyrics and guitar pieces, and as of 2023 began recording and with Joey Stylez under his independent record label Ble$$ed Street Studios. Under
BSS she will be releasing a total of 12 songs, 6 which will be coming soon in new projects. The BSS label also houses artists like Jason Chakita, Union Native and Pete Sands.
In 2026 she will be working with new band mates-soon to be revealed-with the upcoming release of the single "sâkihitowin". This July 10th, she will be performing live at the Country Thunder Saskatchewan songwriters circle in Craven, accompanied by a special guest.
