Green Bay Ground Search and Rescue would like to extend a sincere thank you to Bonnie Matthews of FireFly Metals for presenting our team executive with a generous donation in support of our organization.
This contribution will be used toward the purchase of new patient extraction equipment—specialized equipment that will help our volunteers safely and effectively reach, stabilize, and transport patients during search and rescue operations. 🚑⛑️
For an organization like ours, support from companies throughout our region makes a tremendous difference. These contributions help ensure our team has access to the modern, reliable tools and equipment we need when the call comes in—often in challenging terrain and difficult conditions. 🧭🌲
We are extremely grateful to FireFly Metals for recognizing the importance of our search and rescue team and for investing in the safety of the communities we serve. 💙🧡

Blaze Orange 🫎
Big game season is open in most areas of Newfoundland and Labrador this weekend!
Whether you're hunting, trapping, or just out for a walk, stay safe when you're enjoying our great outdoors by wearing blaze orange.

🫎🌲 Big game hunting season is here 🌲🫎
For many across Newfoundland and Labrador, opening day means heading into the country, spending time at the cabin, and putting a few miles on the ATV in search of that big bull. Green Bay Ground Search & Rescue would like to wish all hunters a safe and successful hunting season!
As you head into the backcountry, remember that even experienced outdoorspeople can find themselves in trouble. Weather can change, equipment can break down, injuries can happen, and familiar country can look very different after dark or in poor conditions.
A few simple precautions can make all the difference:
🗺️ Leave a plan behind. Make sure someone knows where you’re going, how you plan to get there, who is with you, and when you expect to return.
📡 Have a reliable way to communicate. Cell coverage can disappear quickly once you leave populated areas. A satellite communicator, or Personal Locator Beacon can be an important backup.
🧭 Know your location. Carry a GPS or offline mapping device and consider a map and compass as backup. Make sure you know how to use your equipment before you need it.
🎒 Pack for the unexpected. Extra clothing, food and water, medications, a first-aid kit, flashlight, fire-starting supplies and emergency shelter can turn an unexpected night in the woods into a much safer situation.
🔋 Keep your equipment ready. Fully charge your phone, GPS and communication devices before leaving, and carry spare batteries or a power bank.
🌦️ Keep an eye on the weather. Conditions can change quickly, especially when travelling long distances into remote areas. Know when it’s time to change your plans or turn around.
🛻 Make sure your ride is ready too. Whether travelling by ATV, side-by-side, truck or boat, inspect it before leaving and carry adequate fuel, basic tools and recovery equipment.
And remember — if your plans change, update the person you left your trip plan with. Knowing where to start looking can be extremely valuable when time matters.
We hope the only thing you bring home this season is a great story and, with a little luck, a successful harvest. 🫎
But if things don’t go according to plan, Green Bay Ground Search & Rescue will be ready to answer the call when needed.
Stay safe, look out for one another, and enjoy the season!

🔥🌲 Supporting Our Community Through Wildfire Smoke & Respiratory Risks 🌲🔥
Green Bay Ground Search & Rescue (GBGSAR) is pleased to have acquired a supply of N95 respirators and medical masks through a partnership with the Government of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross’ 2026 Mask Distribution Campaign. 🇨🇦⛑️
These masks will be available to help protect residents in our area should our communities be impacted by smoke from nearby wildfires or other events that may pose a risk to respiratory health. 😷
Wildfire smoke can travel significant distances and may contain fine particles that can affect air quality and respiratory health. Having the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) available is an important part of community preparedness. When smoke conditions become poor, a properly fitted N95 respirator can provide greater protection from fine airborne particles than a standard medical mask.
Preparedness isn’t only about responding when an emergency happens — it’s also about having the right resources in place before they’re needed. 🧰✅
GBGSAR is proud to support the safety and preparedness of the communities we serve, and we sincerely thank the Government of Canada and Canadian Red Cross for making these resources available to organizations and communities across the country. ❤️🇨🇦
