Wheatland County is a municipal district located East of Calgary. Covering 4,539 km², more than 8000 people call Wheatland County home.
Twelve of the twenty-four distinct communities in the County are officially recognized as hamlets. The hamlets are overseen by the County while the Villages of Hussar, Standard and Rockyford, and the Town of Strathmore are self-governed. In terms of population, Carseland is the County’s largest hamlet with 568 residents (2011). As the name suggests, Wheatland County’s largest industry is agriculture. Beef and grain production make up the largest agricultural activity with many other agri-businesses emerging, such as agri-tourism and seed cleaning. In addition to agriculture, construction and mineral extraction also contribute largely to the local economy. While some communities are growing, Wheatland County is still very much a rural municipality. A land area of 4,539 km² places the County’s population density at just under 2 people per km². Wheatland County is governed by an elected County Council, made up of six councillors and one Reeve. Council provides direction, while the county operations are conducted by a team of employees, led by a Chief Administrative Officer. Together, Council and administration work towards the mission and vision of Wheatland County.

Alberta RCMP warning public of money safe scams:
The Alberta RCMP is warning residents and local businesses about a scam targeting retail employees. Fraudsters are contacting store employees and using a variety of tactics to convince them to hand over funds belonging to the business.
Business owners and employees are encouraged to keep the following safety tips in mind:
• Hang up and contact your employer or supervisor directly to verify ay request involving money or financial transactions.
• Never use your personal funds for a business-related transaction at the direction of an unknown caller.
• Be cautious of caller ID information, as it can be spoofed to appear legitimate.
• Report suspicious activity or attempted fraud to your local police service immediately.

🚧 Rosebud Improvements Project Begins September 21
Construction on the Rosebud Improvements Project will begin Monday, September 21, 2026.
Work will include:
• Paving on Severn Avenue and Comstock Street
• A new pathway near the public gazebo
• Watermain extension along Railway Avenue, from Comstock Street to Main Street
• Various sidewalk improvements
Temporary road closures and lane restrictions may be required during construction. Access to local residences, businesses, and emergency services will be maintained wherever possible.
Please obey all construction signage, traffic-control devices, and directions from workers in the area.

Designed for livestock producers, these sessions offer practical learning in cattle handling, pressure and movement, pasture gathering, and working cattle in a feedlot setting.

Carseland Pathway Construction
Construction begins September 17 on a new paved pathway connecting the Carseland Community Centre to the baseball diamonds!
