๐Ÿงก Honouring Every Child Matters Through Creativity, Culture & Community ๐Ÿงก

The MKO Traditional Healer Program was honoured to host an inspiring Orange Shirt Day creative session, where participants came together to create beautiful ribbon skirts, beaded earrings, and Orange Shirt Day T-shirt pins.

Each creation represents more than artโ€”it represents culture, remembrance, healing, strength, and solidarity. Through these meaningful pieces, participants had the opportunity to proudly express their support for Every Child Matters and honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors, their families, and generations to come.

These beautiful creations will be proudly showcased during the Orange Shirt Day Fashion Show on September 30, 2026, at the TRCC in Thompson, Manitoba.

As our participants walk the runway wearing their ribbon skirts and beaded earrings, they will carry a powerful message of love, resilience, remembrance, and hope.

๐Ÿงก Every Child Matters.
๐Ÿงก Every Story Matters.
๐Ÿงก Every Survivor Matters.
๐Ÿงก Our Culture Matters.

Together, we walk forward with respect, remembrance, and a commitment to keeping the spirit of Every Child Matters alive. ๐Ÿงก

A warm and grateful shout out to the amazing facilitators of the sessions:

๐Ÿ‘— The Ribbon Skirt โ€“ A Symbol of Culture and Identity ๐Ÿ‘—

The ribbon skirt has been an important part of Native American culture for centuries. Its modern style can be traced to the woolen broadcloth skirts of the 1800s, which Indigenous women transformed into a vibrant expression of cultural identity.

Decorated with ribbons representing the colors of the earth, sky, and water, each tribe developed its own unique styles, colors, and designs.

Today, ribbon skirts continue to be worn by Native women for both traditional ceremonies and everyday life, honoring heritage while celebrating cultural pride.
