Thompson RCMP searching for missing 16-year-old male

On September 20, 2026, at 10:50 pm., Thompson RCMP received a report of a missing 16-year-old male from an address on Westwood Drive.

Dakota Spence was last seen earlier in the evening on that day. Since that time, no one has heard or seen him.

It is believed he may still be in the Thompson area or possibly travelled to Split Lake.

Spence is described as 5’6”, with a medium build and long brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants and black runners.

Spence may also be using a different name.

Anyone with information on Spence’s whereabouts is asked to contact Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909.

Thompson Rural RCMP make arrest after shots fired at residence

On September 23, 2026, at 2:02 pm., Thompson Rural RCMP were notified about a male that had discharged a firearm, striking a residence in the community of Brochet.

Officers learned the suspect was inside a residence, possibly with other individuals. The suspect was not reported to have shot at any other residences after the initial call and no injuries were reported.

At the scene police began call outs for anyone inside to exit the home. Two females exited the residence while the suspect remained inside.

Officers subsequently entered the home and located the suspect in a bedroom, where he was arrested.

A search of the property was conducted, and numerous fi****ms were located in a shed.

A 27-year-old male from Brochet, faces the following charges:
• Pointing a firearm;
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender x2; and
• Discharge firearm while being reckless.

Thompson RCMP drug trafficking investigation leads to arrest

As a result of an ongoing investigation involving Thompson RCMP General Investigative Services (GIS) and Manitoba RCMP North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST), Controlled Drugs and Substance Act warrants were executed at three separate residences in Thompson.

On September 17, 2026, GIS and CREST officers executed warrants at Deerwood Crescent, Pipe Road, and Sandpiper Drive. They were assisted by Thompson RCMP Crime Suppression Unit and The Pas RCMP Police Dog Services.

Inside the homes, officers located and seized:
• A large quantity of suspected co***ne
• Over $9,000 in Canadian currency

Alexis Halvorsen, 37, was arrested without incident Inside the residence on Sandpiper Drive.
She was remanded and was charged with the following:
• Trafficking;
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking; and
• Possession of property obtained by crime

Items seized are still being processed by Manitoba RCMP and the exact quantity of illicit drugs has not yet been determined.

Thompson RCMP GIS and CREST continue to investigate.

On September 20, at 3:32 am., Thompson RCMP received a report about a male who had threatened two individuals with a knife outside of a business address on Princeton Drive.

Officers responded immediately and were given a description of the suspect by employees, and he was located almost immediately and arrested

The initial investigation determined the suspect approached both a male and a female, threatening them with a knife. No one was injured in the incident.

A 27-year-old male from Thompson is facing the following charges:
• Fail to comply with probation order
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purposes

He was released on an Undertaking.
Thompson RCMP continue to investigate.

Update - The 21-year-old male that was reported missing has been safely located.

Over the September long weekend, Thompson RCMP conducted proactive traffic enforcement and two checkstops, with a focus on keeping impaired drivers off the road.

On September 4, officers were joined by MADD Thompson for a checkstop where approximately 300 vehicles were checked throughout the evening. A number of traffic tickets were issued, including one to a driver whose child was not properly secured in a car seat. Officers also issued three 72-hour administrative suspensions using the Approved Drug Screening Equipment (ADSE) — two for cannabis and one for co***ne.

The evening was particularly meaningful, as officers were joined by Nathan Lounsbury’s mother, a MADD Thompson representative. During the September long weekend in 2020, Nathan was only 17 years old when he was killed by an impaired driver. Her presence was a powerful reminder of what’s at stake every time someone chooses to drive impaired.

On September 5, Thompson Rural RCMP conducted another checkstop, with assistance from the Manitoba Conservation Officer Service, and checked more than 50 vehicles. Several tickets were issued in addition to four 72-hour administrative suspensions — two alcohol-related and two for cannabis.

Update – Thompson Rural RCMP respond to possible drowning

On September 1, 2026, Dominion Diver’s and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) returned to Kelsey Dam to continue the search for 60-year-old James Redmond who was reported missing on August 3, 2026.

During the search, a body was noticed in the water near the shore.

Following the recovery, the body was transported to Winnipeg for an autopsy, which confirmed the deceased to be James Redmond.

The death is not considered suspicious.

Thompson Rural RCMP respond to possible drowning

On August 3, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., Thompson Rural RCMP received a report of a missing male in Kelsey, Manitoba, who had not been seen since earlier in the day at 5:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that James Redmond, 60, from Alberta, was known to go fishing from the shore of the Nelson River.

Officers searched along the shoreline near his cabin, and gear belonging to James was located approximately 200 metres upstream from the dam at Kelsey Generating Station. Police believe this may be where he entered into the Nelson River.

RCMP drones and a private diving company will be on scene today to assist with the ongoing search.

Thompson Rural RCMP continues to investigate.

Thompson RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 14-year-old male.

Ahiman Bunn was last seen just after 3 p.m. on Aug. 30 in Thompson. He has not been seen since.

Officers believe Bunn may have travelled to Winnipeg.

RCMP are concerned for his well-being.

Thompson RCMP make arrest after assault at local business

On August 21, 2026, at 11:08 pm., Thompson RCMP were dispatched to a hotel in the city after a report of a possible assault.

Officers immediately responded and spoke to the female victim who advised an unknown male had grabbed her in a hallway and attempted to force her into his hotel room.

The 18-year-old female was able to break free and tell a family member who called police. She was not physically injured.

Officers were able to locate a 19-year-old male still inside the hotel and arrest him without incident.

The male from York Landing, was charged with the following:
• Assault; and
• Forcible confinement
