⭐This Concussion Awareness Week, our Thursday Check-In is a reminder that concussion can affect people in many different ways.

👉Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, light sensitivity, and changes in mood can impact everyday life, and you don’t have to navigate those challenges alone.

📌Take a moment to check in with yourself or someone you care about. How are you feeling today? What kind of support might help?

🧠OBIA offers resources and support for individuals living with concussion and brain injury, as well as their families and caregivers, including our Helpline, online concussion support groups, Peer Support Program, and Navigating Concussion – Your Guide to Recovery booklet.

OBIA joins Canadians across the country in recognizing the historical and ongoing impacts of the residential school system of Indigenous Peoples.

We acknowledge the truth of the painful experiences that Indigenous children endured and the profound intergenerational trauma that continues to affect the Indigenous communities today.

The OBIA office will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

🧠 Rowan’s Law Day | September 30, 2026

📌We are sharing this message today since tomorrow is also the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, an important day of remembrance, reflection and learning.

📌As we approach Rowan’s Law Day, we remember Rowan Stringer and the lasting impact of her story on concussion awareness and prevention. Her legacy reminds us of the importance of recognizing concussion symptoms, speaking up and making safety a priority in sports and beyond.

Let's continue raising awareness and helping protect our communities.⭐

Throughout this week, OBIA will be sharing information, resources, and messages to help raise awareness of concussion and the impact it can have on everyday life.

✨ OBIA is pleased to share the second episode of our Thursday Check-In series, where each week we offer a moment of reflection, encouragement, and connection for individuals living with acquired brain injury (ABI), as well as their families, service providers, and members of the community.

🍁 This week, our Senior Manager, Lauren Hough, shares an important reminder: a quiet day can still be a meaningful progress.

🌿 Progress after brain injury is not always visible. Some days, progress may look like resting, slowing down, protecting your energy, or simply giving your mind and body the time they need. Recovery is not measured only by how much you accomplish. It can also be found in patience, reflection, and the small, quiet moments that help you continue moving forward.

➡️ Save this whenever you need a reminder and don't forget to share with someone in your life who may need to hear it too!

On September 4, OBIA’s Life After Impact Team attended Hamilton’s fifth annual “Ability First” Accessibility Fair, presented by the City of Hamilton and the Accessibility Committee for Persons with Disabilities (ACPD).

Through our Understanding Brain Injury Station, we had the opportunity to connect with community members, share information about brain injury, and help build greater awareness and understanding.

⭐Thank you to everyone who stopped by and shared in conversations about creating more accessible, inclusive, and supportive communities. We’re grateful to be part of events that bring people and organizations together.

✨Thursday Check-in with OBIA!✨

OBIA is pleased to introduce a new initiative: Thursday Check-in with OBIA!

Each Thursday, we’ll be sharing helpful reminders, practical tips, resources, and supportive check-ins for people living with brain injury, care partners, service providers, and members of our community.

This series is rooted in advocacy, support, connection and education. Our goal is to create a regular space where community members can discover helpful information, feel supported, and stay connected to resources that may make a meaningful impact on their day-to-day lives.

This week, we’re placing the spotlight on OBIA resources with content designed to help you discover our free and accessible resources and programs available and how you can reach out when you need them.

Stay tuned every Thursday for a new check-in and a little reminder that support and connection are always within reach.
