I always really enjoy my chats with Darcy at East Coast DNA and this one was no exception!
We discussed themes from the EP (home, memory, nostalgia) and how the song Press Rewind came to be.
You can listen to the full interview at the link in my bio :)
‘Back Where I Started’ is the final song on this new EP.
Lately I’ve been thinking about how making art is series of creative decisions. Saying yes to an idea means moving in a certain direction - and thereby saying no to other possibilities.
When I was writing ‘Unravelling,’ the last song on my 2024 EP golden hours, I had a couple of very distinct ideas that I recorded as voice memos. One was the beginning of what would become ‘Unravelling,’ and the other had a completely different melody line and feeling.
I’ve always loved the idea of going back to that original chord progression and to explore, ‘what else could this have become?’ So I revisited it and took things in a different direction.
This became ‘Back Where I Started,’ and it felt fitting to end the EP by returning for a moment to its sister song.
Thankyou so much for listening to the EP, and for sharing such kind words. I am very grateful to have such a supportive community! ⋆˙⟡
My first show for this EP release tour is in Guelph at La Poche on October 10th. Do you have friends in Guelph who you think might enjoy the show? Please send them my way! (Ticket link is in my bio and tix also available at the door)
˚˖𓍢ִ໋❀ ‘home-going’ ˚˖𓍢ִ໋❀ is out everywhere today!
I absolutely loved the experience of recording these songs at home, on the same piano where I first wrote them.
'home-going' was by produced by Eric Vanier who also played bass, guitar, drums, synth, and bgs on a few of the tracks.
I am immensely grateful for everyone who supported me in helping to bring this little project to life!
Thankyou for listening!
