The Academy chose Anthony Minghella’s epic love story, The English Patient, as the best film of 1996. What are your thoughts? Looking back, which movie should have taken home the top prize at the Oscars that year? Other greats that didn’t get nominated for Best Picture include Trainspotting, Breaking the Waves, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Lone Star, Kolya, and even Big Night.

Happy 127th Birthday to the true Master of Suspense. On how he makes such amazing masterpieces, he once said "I film my murders like love scenes and my love scenes like murders” ... and who are we to argue with this approach? lol!
Alfred Hitchcock knew what he was doing. Vertigo and Rear Window have always been my favourites, however I cherish all of his work. From his first feature (the very good "The Lodger", in 1927) to his last (the just ok "Frenzy", in 1976), and all the brilliance in between, this rotund genius left an indelible mark on the history of cinema, and for future generations to experience.
This may be the year I sit and rewatch each and every one of his 53 creations back to back.

As a film critic, I’ve sat alone in many many movie theatres over the years. Today I had Seth, Olivia, Penélope, and Edward to myself for just under two hours.
I actually like the film a lot! How many of you have seen The Invite, directed by Olivia Wilde?

Undoubtedly one of the great classics of all time, as well as likely the best sequel ever made, The Godfather, Part II not only drives the story of the Corleone family forward, but it also takes us back to how it all started.
