There are some moments in small business that completely catch you off guard.

This was one of them.

I recently found out that Fern Toronto has been awarded Gold for Best Florist in Scarborough in the CommunityVotes 2026 awards.

The funny part? I didn’t even know the awards were happening.

I wasn’t asking for votes or sharing reminders to vote. So finding out that people in our community nominated and supported my business on their own made this recognition feel even more meaningful.

The truth is, running a small business can be incredibly rewarding... and incredibly challenging.

Behind every bouquet is a person wearing a dozen different hats. Designing flowers, answering emails, sweeping the floor, placing flower orders, managing the website, keeping up with social media, delivering flowers, worrying about finances, and hoping you’re building something that truly matters.

Some days feel full of momentum.

Other days leave you questioning everything.

Then, out of nowhere, something like this reminds you that people notice. That they care. That the work you’ve poured your heart into has reached someone.

To every customer who has trusted me with birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, sympathy flowers, celebrations, and everyday moments - thank you.

Wildflowers have a way of making everything feel a little more joyful.

This garden-inspired arrangement welcomed guests to a sweet first birthday brunch last weekend. Soft pinks, cheerful blues, and plenty of movement - designed to feel as though it had been gathered from a summer meadow.

Every arrangement is created without floral foam, using sustainable mechanics that let the flowers move naturally.

Summer, to me, looks a lot like this.

There is something really special about knowing these blooms were growing in Ontario fields just days ago.

This morning felt especially peaceful, and I found myself feeling really grateful that this gets to be my work.

One of my favourite things about the Birch Cliff Arrangement is that it gives back 🩷
