The Maple Staple

| Meet Donald Owens, our September 2026 Author of the Month, where groundbreaking science and environmental discovery collide, as he shines a light on a hidden key to protecting our planet! 🌍

Donald Owens' journey is defined by his passion for practical innovation. Holding degrees in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from Kettering University and a law degree from Georgetown Law, he began experimenting with hydrogen to cut fuel costs. His personal curiosity led to extensive lab testing in Southern California, revealing that adding small amounts of hydrogen during combustion can slash harmful particulate matter emissions by over 50%.

He tackles the root cause of global glacier melt in “Burn Fuel Better: From Helpless to Hopeful in the Race Against Climate Change.” Spotlighting a little-known pollutant, Donald breaks down how black carbon from fossil fuels accelerates climate change and offers a tangible path forward. By demonstrating how leveraging hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe can minimize these harmful emissions, he equips us with clear solutions to safeguard our shared future.

Stand with the movement toward cleaner air and a sustainable world, as Donald shows us how simple innovations can make a lasting global impact. 🌱

| Meet Robert “Bob” Janicki, our August 2026 Author of the Month, where deep-rooted brotherhood and raw frontline history collide, as he honors the quiet heroes of Vietnam and shows us the true heart of service! 🎖️

A decorated Marine veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Bob’s journey is defined by his unwavering devotion to his fellow service members. After serving as an infantry squad leader during the grueling Tet Offensive, he transitioned to a successful 31-year career in IT at AT&T. Guided by a passion for advocacy, Bob founded a workplace support group in 1985 that grew into the national AT&T Veterans Organization, dedicating decades to driving impactful community outreach across the country.

In “Looking Back” he gives us the unvarnished truth of the Vietnam War. Centered around a deeply moving cover photo of his three-man squad taken right after a fierce battle in March 1968, this memoir is a masterclass in survival, tight-knit brotherhood, and the weight of remembering those who didn't return. Bob places you right in the dirt with the everyday soldier, capturing not only the harsh daily realities of the frontlines but also the complex sting of coming home.

Join us in honoring the legacy of Bob's fallen brothers, whose stories live on through his deeply personal words—a timeless reminder of the sacrifices made in the name of freedom.🤝
