It is with great sadness and sorrow that we mourn the passing of Keyvan Khosrovani, architect, designer, researcher, and one of the most distinctive figures in Iran’s modern cultural and design history.

He was the founder of Number One, one of Iran’s first modern boutiques devoted to local production and the use of Iranian textiles. At the suggestion of Empress Farah Pahlavi, and in collaboration with Mah Monir Jahanbani and Pari Zolfaghari, he spent thirteen years drawing on Iran’s rich traditions of craft and transforming them into museum-quality haute couture created for the Empress.

His architectural work was equally significant. Among his projects were the Mehmansaray of Nayin and the Kanoon Parvaresh Fekri Koodakan va Nojavanan library, built in 1969 for the residents of Gowd-Zanboorak-Khaneh, where the nearly windowless space was conceived in part for the projection of Kanoon’s educational films.

Across architecture, fashion, interiors, and design, Khosrovani developed a language in which Iranian tradition was never treated as something fixed or nostalgic, but as material for a modern cultural expression.

Beyond the work he leaves behind, his knowledge, generosity, and lifelong devotion to Iranian culture inspired generations of artists and designers. His memory and legacy will remain an enduring part of Iran’s cultural and design history.

Given the close friendship Keyvan Khosrovani shared with our Editor-in-Chief, Araz Fazaeli, his passing is also a deeply personal loss. Araz will take some time before sharing a personal tribute to Keyvan’s life, work, and legacy in the coming days.

We kindly ask journalists and members of the media wishing to contact Keyvan’s family or loved ones to reach out to The Tehran Times, and we will assist where appropriate.

Rest in power, Number One.
