SBA has a simple game plan: To provide youth in and around the Scarborough area with the opportunity

Celebrating Our Coaches: Joel Salvi | Scarborough Basketball Association 08/09/2026

You do not have to have be a basketball expert to become a great SBA coach.
Just ask Joel Salvi.

Joel first came to the SBA as a parent looking for the right basketball home for his son. When someone asked if any parents wanted to help out, he stepped forward.
Five years later, Joel is the head coach for his younger son and an assistant coach with his older son.
That is what the SBA is built on.

Parents who care. Former players who want to give back. Coaches who grow into the role and help young athletes build confidence, compete, improve, and create memories that last.

In our latest Built by Coaches story, Joel shares how he got started, what it has meant to coach his sons, and why being part of the SBA has become such an important part of his basketball journey.

If you have ever thought about coaching, helping, or getting more involved with your child’s team, Joel’s story is a great place to start.

As the Scarborough Basketball Association celebrates its 30th anniversary season, we are taking time to recognize the coaches who helped build the program from the gym floor up.

For 30 Seasons Strong, the SBA has been shaped by people who stepped forward. Some came to the organization with years of coaching experience.

Others started as parents who simply wanted to help, support their children, and give back to the community.

Together, they created teams, taught the game, mentored young athletes, supported families, and helped grow basketball in Scarborough.

Our Built by Coaches series will share stories from current and former SBA coaches, highlighting why they got involved, what coaching has meant to them, and the memories they helped create along the way.

Although Greg is now retired, his commitment to the organization has never slowed down. He continues to volunteer his time and energy to help ensure that the SBA and the families we serve can continue to grow and succeed.
