I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I allow to shape my mind.
A few weeks ago, I watched a film that was immaculately executed, but deeply hopeless. It lingered with me for days. I noticed how easily its darkness settled into my thoughts, coloring the way I saw everything else. It reminded me that what we repeatedly behold doesn’t just stay in our minds—it slowly forms us.
This piece grew out of that realization.
Lately I’ve been returning to the practice of pausing. Looking a little longer. Noticing light through the trees, a stranger’s face and pausing long enough to smile to them, The more I intentionally fill my mind with what is true, good, and beautiful, the more I find myself recognizing beauty everywhere else.
What we fill our minds with shapes who we become.
This piece is a reminder to myself that where I place my attention matters.
