So happy to welcome our CALL interns—the Fall cohort! And who better to do the honours than our very own Maple? 🦛💚

We’re so excited to have you join us!

Because you helped recycle them! ♻️
A great example of how, bit by bit, small efforts become heaps and piles. Every effort counts, no matter how small.
Thank you for your generous donations and for helping make a difference! You’re now officially a Guardian of Sea Ice. 🧊🐻‍❄️

This summer, our CALL interns organized a Toy Donation Drive in recognition of Arctic Sea Ice Day, an initiative by Polar Bears International that highlights the importance of Arctic sea ice to polar bears and the broader health of our planet.

The interns recognized the environmental impact of the toy industry, including the carbon emissions associated with manufacturing, transportation, and waste. Too often, unwanted toys end up in landfills or waterways, contributing to pollution and environmental degradation. Our interns wanted to give these toys a second life and reduce waste while encouraging others to think more sustainably about consumption.

And just like that, our summer CALL interns have wrapped up their internship at Toronto Zoo! 🌱

We are so incredibly proud of all they’ve learned, the work they’ve contributed, and everything they’ve accomplished during their time at the Zoo.

From working closely with our Zoo Camp Counsellors and supporting campers’ learning and engagement, to learning about Climate Action, Wildlife Conservation, and Sustainability, our interns did so much! They also created engaging Climate Action projects while developing a variety of valuable skills, including leadership, critical thinking, public speaking, collaboration, and communication. 🌎💚

It has been incredible to see their confidence, creativity, and knowledge grow throughout the summer. We’re so proud of each of them and can’t wait to see all that they accomplish next! 👏🏽

Renatta presenting her project Fish Frenzy: Small changes, Big Ripples to zoo guests.

Ella presenting her seminar for grade 11 Zoo school students, inspiring them to make an impact with climate actions.

The generous toy donations for Arctic Sea Ice Day that you all made possible. All these toys will not end up in landfills but will be recycled by TerraCycle.

Just shows how each and every effort counts.

Our CALL interns experience “Glow in the Wild” at your Toronto Zoo

Work on my CALL project with me! 🐧🦏❄️

Hi! I’m Karunya, one of this summer’s CALL interns at your Toronto Zoo , and I’m excited to give you a little sneak peek into my project, “The Missing Piece.”

This pop-up art showcase features the snow leopard, white rhino, and African penguin, highlighting how climate change is impacting these incredible species and the cost they pay as their environments continue to change.

But why art? 🎨

Art has a unique way of connecting people to important issues. It sparks emotion, invites reflection, and helps us see the world through a different lens. When people feel connected to a story, they are more likely to take action. Through this showcase, I hope to inspire conversations about conservation and our role in protecting wildlife.

✨ Join me on August 26 & 27 to learn more about these animals, explore the stories behind their struggles, and see the final artworks come to life!

You’ll find me near the Watusi cattle habitat in Africa Savanna area between 10am to 2pm.

See you at the Zoo☺️
