I’m not always super motivated to do strength and activation work. I would way rather do a quality bike, run or swim session but I know that these quality strength sessions will keep my body balanced and prevent niggles from creeping up. It helps to have my 4 year old around to keep me in check by asking me almost every day, “mama, when can we do your workout”.

I’m not always motivated to do my strength and activation work. I would much rather do a quality bike, run or swim workout but I know that this piece of the puzzle as an endurance athlete is huge and the older I get the more I need it. For myself, it prevents niggles and keeps my body feeling balanced. I always feel better during and after but some days I need a push to get started. Thankfully, my 4 year old as been keeping me in check.

Great way to start the week. Love my group zwift Monday rides with and athletes. Some easier drills with low and high cadence focussing on smooth/full pedal stroke. Monday’s are one of my favourite days of the week. I get my new week of training to look forward to with new small goals to accomplish.

My amazing, smart, funny, athletic, beautiful daughter was nominated and awarded the U14 MVP award in the Junior Development Squad at the Toronto West Athletics Running Club’s Virtual Banquet over the weekend. We also had the privilege of listening to Krista DuChene talk about her very inspiring running career.

I have been working with Barrie Shepley on my triathlon journey for two weeks now as a new athlete on his high performance team and I’m already realizing just how much I’ve neglect the little things over the years especially as I head to my 40’s.
Executing the swim, bike and run sessions are the easy parts.
Fuelling, recovery, sleep as well as strength, activation, stretch and yoga are the things we normally put aside but those are the things that will help you achieve your own athletic excellence.
I still have a lot of work to do in those areas but I’m noticing improvements already by adding those small but big changes back into my training.
