Act #93 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Seniors Health & Wellness Fair βοΈπ
On June 17th, we were delighted to once again participate in the Seniors Health & Wellness Fair at the York Recreation Centre.
This annual event brings together a wide variety of organizations dedicated to helping older adults live healthy, active, and connected lives. Attendees had the opportunity to explore community resources, learn about health and wellness services, participate in educational activities, and connect with local organizations committed to supporting seniors throughout Toronto.
Representing Cardinal Funeral Homes were Cindy and Kathy, who enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people throughout the day. They were on hand to answer questions about the benefits of pre-planning a funeral, providing information in a relaxed, welcoming environment where visitors could learn at their own pace.
Of course, no summer event would be complete without a few fun giveaways! We were happy to hand out our popular Cardinal sunglasses and glasses cleaner kits, which were a big hit with attendees. π
We always enjoy participating in community events like this because they give us the opportunity to connect with our neighbours, answer questions, and help people feel more informed and prepared for the future. It was wonderful to be back again this year, and we look forward to many more opportunities to support the seniors in our community.
πΈ We've included a few photos from the day featuring our booth, some of our summer giveaways, and Kathy enjoying another great event.

Act #92 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Celebrating the Graduates of Lucy McCormick Senior School ππ
One of our favourite annual traditions is once again supporting the graduates of Lucy McCormick Senior School, and this year was no exception.
Located just around the corner from our Annette location, Lucy McCormick provides an incredible learning environment for students with developmental disabilities, helping them grow in confidence, independence, and life skills while celebrating each student's unique abilities.
For many years, we've been honoured to donate bouquets of flowers for the graduating class, helping make this important milestone just a little more special. Graduation is a day of pride not only for the students, but also for their families, teachers, and everyone who has supported them along the way.
This year's donation was once again coordinated by our funeral director, Mark, who has been a wonderful advocate for supporting the school and helping continue this meaningful tradition. We're grateful for his dedication to ensuring the graduates receive the recognition they deserve on such a special day.
Congratulations to all of this year's graduates! We wish each of you every success and happiness as you begin the next chapter of your journey.
πΈ We've included photos from this year's graduation celebration, featuring the graduates proudly holding their bouquets as they celebrated this well-deserved milestone.

Act #91 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Celebrating Portugal Week π΅πΉπ
Last weekend, we were proud to once again support ACAPO's Portugal Week, one of Toronto's most vibrant cultural celebrations and an event we have been honoured to sponsor for many years.
Portugal Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich history, traditions, and contributions of the Portuguese-Canadian community, which has played such an important role in shaping the fabric of our city. Throughout the weekend, thousands gathered to enjoy live music, cultural performances, delicious food, family activities, amusement rides, and the much-anticipated Portugal Day Parade, which filled the streets with colour, pride, and community spirit.
In addition to our sponsorship, members of our team were on hand throughout the festivities, greeting visitors and giving away our popular Cardinal sunglasses to help festival-goers enjoy the beautiful summer weather in style. πβοΈ
As a company with deep roots in Toronto's Portuguese community, we are always grateful for the opportunity to celebrate alongside the many families, organizations, and volunteers who work so hard to make Portugal Week such a tremendous success year after year.
A special thank you and congratulations to Joe Eustaquio, who has organized and led Portugal Week for many years. Events of this scale do not happen without countless hours of dedication and hard work, and Joe's passion for celebrating and promoting Portuguese culture continues to make a lasting impact on our community. Once again, he and his team did a fantastic job delivering a memorable week of festivities.
πΈ We've included a few photos of our team enjoying the festivities and connecting with the community throughout the weekend.
ParabΓ©ns to ACAPO, Joe Eustaquio, and all of the volunteers, performers, organizers, and attendees who helped make this year's celebration another outstanding success!

Act #90 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Supporting the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament π¨π¦πΊπ¦β³
We were proud to support the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament as a sponsor, joining fellow business leaders, community members, and supporters for a day of golf, networking, and community spirit in support of an important cause.
The tournament brought together individuals and organizations committed to strengthening ties between Canada and Ukraine while raising funds for Unite with Ukraine, an initiative that provides critical humanitarian and medical assistance to Ukrainians affected by the ongoing war.
As a company with deep roots in the Ukrainian-Canadian community, supporting events like this is especially meaningful to us. We have seen firsthand the generosity, resilience, and determination of our community over the past several years, and we remain committed to doing our part to help those in need both here in Canada and abroad.
Beyond the fundraising, the day was a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends, colleagues, and community leaders who share a common goal of supporting Ukraine and building a stronger future.
πΈ We've included a few photos from the day, which was filled with great conversations, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

Act #89 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Supporting Banda do Senhor Santo Cristo πΆπ΅πΉ
A few weeks ago, we were proud to support the Banda do Senhor Santo Cristo of Toronto and their annual dinner and dance fundraiser.
This year is especially significant as the band celebrates its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of music, tradition, faith, and community within Toronto's Portuguese community. Through countless religious celebrations, cultural events, and community gatherings, the band has become a cherished institution for generations of Luso-Canadians.
As a company with deep roots in Toronto's Portuguese community, and with our Bathurst location located just down the street from St. Mary's Parish, we were honoured to contribute to this special event and help support an organization that has done so much to preserve and celebrate Portuguese heritage over the years.
We are grateful for the longstanding support that the Portuguese community has shown our family and our funeral home, and we remain committed to giving back to the organizations and traditions that help make our city such a vibrant and welcoming place.
πΉ We are sharing a video from the evening's festivities, courtesy of GENTE da NOSSA tv, so you can experience some of the music, dancing, and community spirit that made the event such a success.
Congratulations to the members of Banda do Senhor Santo Cristo on reaching this incredible milestone. Here's to 60 years of music and community, and many more to come!

Act #88 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β A Story of Strength, Healing & Hope ππ
Recently, we had the privilege of reconnecting with a family we served in 2022, during one of the most difficult moments any parent can face, the loss of a child.
Mai Nguyen entrusted us with the service for her daughter, Gemma, and while we will always remember that time with care and compassion, we were deeply moved to hear how she has continued her journey of healing.
Mai has recently published her second novel, Cleo Dang Would Rather Be Dead, a darkly humorous yet deeply moving story inspired by her lived experience. The book follows a grieving mother who begins working at a funeral home as she tries to navigate life after loss, and in doing so, discovers unexpected moments of connection, meaning, and even humour along the way.
When Mai visited us this week to share copies of her book with our team, we had the chance to speak with her about her story and, with her permission, we are honoured to help share it more widely.
For far too long, pregnancy and infant loss have carried a stigma, leaving many families to grieve quietly and alone. By sharing stories like Maiβs, we hope to play a small role in bringing these experiences into the open and creating space for understanding, compassion, and support.
As part of this Act of Kindness, we are giving away a signed copy of Cleo Dang Would Rather Be Dead.

Act #87 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Supporting the Abrigo Centre Gala πβ¨
This past Saturday, March 28th, we were proud to once again support the Abrigo Centre Gala at the Pearson Convention Centre as the eventβs transportation sponsor.
For many years, weβve had the privilege of supporting the Abrigo Centre and helping ensure guests can travel safely and comfortably to and from this meaningful evening. This year, we were pleased to sponsor the bus that brought guests to the gala β with our own Cindy Ciampa joining the group for the ride. π
The Abrigo Centre is an incredibly important organization within the Portuguese community in Toronto, offering a wide range of essential services including settlement support, family and youth programming, senior services, and community outreach. Their work also extends to providing critical support for victims of intimate partner violence, offering safety, guidance, and resources to those who need it most.
The gala itself was held to raise much-needed funds to continue supporting this vital mission, and it was a wonderful evening that brought the community together in support of such an important cause. Guests enjoyed a beautiful event that was capped off with a live band and dancing, creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere for all in attendance. πΆ
In addition to sponsoring the evening, several members of our team attended the gala and were able to experience firsthand the impact of the Abrigo Centre and the incredible community that surrounds it.
πΈ Included are photos of the bus, our team at the gala, and moments from a truly special night.

One of the wonderful things about the annual Abrigo fundraising dinner is the participation of the seniors in our Life and Hope program. And without fail, each year our friends at Cardinal Funeral Homes are there to ensure all our seniors safely get to and from the event.
Thank you to Cardinal Funeral Homes for serving as our official Transportation Sponsor of our 2026 Building the Fire Within Gala. We are forever grateful for their tremendous support!

Act #86 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness β Supporting the Dave Reid Bonspiel π₯π
On March 11th, we were proud to support the High Park Club and their Senior Menβs Bonspiel, now named the Dave Reid Bonspiel in honour of a longtime member whose contributions left a lasting impact on the club and its community.
Events like this are a wonderful way to bring people together β celebrating sport, friendship, and the legacy of those who helped build such strong community traditions.
Our own Cindy Ciampa was on hand to take in part of the day, and we were especially proud to once again present the Cardinal Cup to the winning team. π
πΈ The photo included in this post features the winning team alongside Pat, Daveβs wife, and Janus, Daveβs daughter β a meaningful moment that reflects both celebration and remembrance.
Weβre grateful to continue supporting organizations like the High Park Club that foster connection, honour legacy, and bring communities together year after year.

π Act of Kindness #85
Last week Kim and Cindy had the pleasure of attending the 19th Annual International Womenβs Day Luncheon hosted by the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals (FPCBP).
This meaningful gathering celebrates the many women who lead, support, and strengthen our Luso-Canadian community each day.
As part of the event, Cardinal Funeral Homes donated two purses filled with feminine care and personal essentials in support of The Purse Project York Region, an initiative that helps provide dignity and care to women who may be facing difficult circumstances.
We are always proud to be part of this special event and to stand alongside so many inspiring women who uplift our community with generosity and heart.
