I am thrilled to finally share with you all that the documentary I scored and created the music for debuts this month!
“Joan’s Kitchen Table” premieres at the Lunenburg Doc Fest on Saturday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m, with the support of
Joan’s Kitchen Table is the story of Joan and Burnley “Rocky” Jones, of their love for each other, their children and a community they helped strengthen and transform during the civil rights movement in Nova Scotia.
Their love was personal, political, complicated and fiercely alive. It lived in family conversations, in acts of resistance, in laughter, in sacrifice and around a kitchen table where private life and public history were never truly separate. Working in this project has been a labour of love, & as always, an honour to bring to light more undiscovered stories of our rich, Canadian and Nova Scotian history.

Dolly… There are no words to express what it feels like to wake up every day in a world now ….without Dolly Parton. When I did this photo shoot this summer, it was to honour how she has influenced my life & work, to be brave enough to do this type of photo shoot at my age. I had no idea it would now be to honour her memory.
There are so many personal stories of the milestones that she holds in my heart about the history of who I am as an artist. When I was working in Japan in the 90’s, the CD that kept my heart alive was “Trio”… Hearing those sweet, three-part harmonies was part of the inspiration for my own Black female a ca****la Trio that I had for years “The Delightful Divas“. One of the 1st songs we did was from that album…”The Pain Of Loving You”.
One of my mantras for living life over the years has been “What Would Dolly Do” because if there was ever a person that I could look at for how she saw everybody in the world, and how to respond… It was her. She was sparkle, authentic, honest, a quiet and generous philanthropist, and one of the most brilliant songwriters of our time. A true icon in every sense of the word. She loved everyone, regardless of race, religion, sexuality,…. and everyone loved Dolly. She showed me that growing older doesn’t mean growing smaller, and for me… It’s been reinvention, and embracing me… At every stage.
In my “Dolly Dream”, she would give me a big ole hug in this outfit and say “darlin, are those Barbie shoes?!” And then do that adorable laugh she would do that made us all smile…
She made glamour, strength, humor, ambition, and authenticity all belong all in the same sentence describing her.
All I can say right now is … I know Carl is so happy to be back with the love of his life. Rest beautiful Dolly… You will be so, SO missed in this world, and as you have said more than once…”I will always love you”… 😢

Is it a dress?! Is it a t-shirt?! At 60+, it’s whatever I say it is.
Thank you Zendaya for the inspiration to be this brave — turns out all you need is golden hour, a great set of heels Christian Louboutin a little attitude, and a country icon or two to remind you whose shoulders we stand on. I think Linda Martell would approve.
