"This index of paintings, images, sculptures, and arrangements of found ephemera included in Kind Of / Sort Of consider fiction as a peculiar resemblance of the truth. Sourcing memories and objects from daily life, they reorient the quotidian logic of the material world towards expressive, new directions. If red strings of fate lead us directly through the physical world toward one another, this exhibition proposes that the fibres themselves are sprawling, technicolour, multiplicitous, yet entangled: Inviting artists to playfully sort and re-arrange the familiar with wonder, introspection, curiosity, and pleasure."

Opeyemi Matthew Olukotun (b. 1989, Ipetu-Ijesha, Nigeria) is a Nigerian–Canadian figurative painter based in Brandon, Manitoba. His work explores themes of migration, identity, and resilience through expressive acrylic portraiture and figuration.

to experience shifting illusions that are constructed as a way to deal with the post-haste terror of heartbreak. to lean on a newfound philosophy and see it through is to experience love, not necessarily with certainty but with a desire to understand and feel. it is represented here as pop art psychedelia that you have projected onto before and will again. you listen to that song that sends you through to the other side or was it— that movie, that book, that friend, that party? to also consider what portion of heartbreak is to remain private or intimate and explode any notions of it. to swallow the ache with this unknowing color that calls to me like a psychic vision. to be an artist that has to consider “love” for the first time.

Aline Setton’s performance in Duran Contemporain’s booth during 2025 brought her exploration of sculpture, painting, installation, and performance into vivid focus.

Her work engaged with architecture, movement, and materiality, translating spatial intuition into poetic gestures that blurred the boundaries between object and body, form and function.

Setton’s sculptural forms, made of bent wood and modular planes, invited viewers to experience physical rhythm through spatial balance, while her paintings extended this dialogue into illusionistic space, evoking movement and suspension through staircases, thresholds, and mirrored perspectives.

Equinox Gallery in Vancouver presents its Summer Group Show, on view until August 29. This evolving exhibition features a dynamic mix of new works by gallery artists alongside notable secondary market pieces. Highlights include Jack Kenna’s Quebeclait (2025), Maggee Day’s Pylon (2025), Gathie Falk’s 55 Oranges (2019), and Guido Molinari’s Untitled (1958).

de Montigny Contemporary in Ottawa presents Mammatus, a solo exhibition by Gillian King, on view until July 25. Featuring sewn and stuffed paintings inspired by the unique forms of mammatus clouds, the series explores atmospheric and emotional states of tension, release, and transformation.

Blouin Division in Montreal presents Lumière, Wanda Koop’s first exhibition in the city since her 2024 solo show at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

On view through July 25, the exhibition features Koop’s new Untethered series, exploring themes of cosmic motion, planetary beauty, and the interplay of light and shadow. Anchored by a monumental red sun painting, the works reflect on humanity’s relationship with the natural world, technology, and the unknown.
