La Rumba Buena

Rumba is back for another summer edition! Saturday, July 18, with very special guest (making her DJ debut!) Cami Salsa (Camila Salsa&Sabor) All going down at our beloved 🎉

Throughout Rumba’s history, it has been our distinct honour to host the DJ debuts of numerous wonderful people. And this month, it’s a true pleasure to host the debut of Cami Salsa.

Cami Salsa (aka Camila Cepeda) is a Colombian 🇨🇴 dancer, instructor, and performer (and about to be a selector) dedicated to sharing the rhythms of Colombia with audiences across Canada. Recognized for her deep knowledge of Latin music and dance, Cami specializes in Salsa Caleña, Champeta, and Colombian Folklore, among many others.

Since founding the Salsa & Sabor (WILL LET YOU CHOOSE WHETHER WE @ for SALSA AND SABOR HERE) dance academy in 2020, Cami has shared her love for Salsa Caleña with thousands of people. Her love for salsa has even lead to performing in the Salsódromo of Feria de Cali.

Tickets on sale now and they will go FAST. Cami (and your humble hosts) will be running a TON of salsa from 🇨🇴. The energy for this one is going to be OFF THE WALL. Bring your dancing shoes, people 💃🏽🪩

We will be donating a portion of the funds this month to an organization supporting the earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela ❤️❤️. We will share more information once we select an organization to work with. Our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Venezuela at this time.

✰ 𝘿𝙀𝙀𝙅𝘼𝙔 𝘿𝙈𝙊𝙀 ✰ came through and put on a show on Saturday! And we’ve got the photos to prove it! (darryll went IN this time - we love the creativity ✨).

Huge thanks to our musical brother from Medellin 🙏🫶. And for those lucky enough to catch it, our friend Jorge Denning opened the night with a wonderful set (and killed it on the 1-1-1-1 at the end of the night too).

Saturday was so much fun, people. Friends and fam in the house. Beautiful music and beautiful people in the space. The night went WAY too quickly (maybe playing all those 45s made the night feel shorter? 🤔).

You already know Rumba is all about celebration! So, to celebrate the World Cup, we’re paying homage to the classic Fania ‘Super Salsa Singers’ record cover (which itself was paying homage to DC / the Super Friends). There are levels to this!!!

While FIFA itself doesn’t seem to be the most morally upstanding organization in the world (cough), an event that brings so many people across the world so much joy is worth commemorating.

In that spirit, we’ll be giving away this limited edition poster (AND hardcopy posters of this month’s Hector Lavoe/illmatic flyer!) to anyone lucky enough to arrive early at Rumba on Saturday. Absolutely free (our gift to you), just come up to the DJ booth and ask for one.

Hot time, summer in the city (my people represent, get busy) 🌇

We’re back! Join us Saturday, June 20th at for a VERY special summertime Rumba. Our super-talented brother is joining us all the way from Medellin, 🇨🇴. If you’ve seen him before, you KNOW it’s going to be a jam. And if you’ve seen haven’t seen him before…you’re in for a treat.

PLUS, in celebration of DMOE joining us again, we’re going to switch it up a little this month: we’ll be playing only 45s all night long. Variety is the spice of life 🌶️, so we’ll be rocking 7 inches of musical pleasure for you with every song. You might hear some tunes you haven’t heard in a while (or ever!). We’ll have fun with it.

Also, special shout out to for the incredible flyer this month and our own for the creative inspiration.

We both grew up as huge east coast hip-hop heads (and so did DMOE, for that matter), and that raw New York energy we both love in rap is a big part of why we love with salsa too. The flyer pays homage to the history and deep connection (a massive understatement, if anything) both genres share with Puerto Ricans in NY.

Feels like it’s been way too long, and we can’t wait to celebrate summer with all of you. Tickets on sale now. They WILL go quickly.

10+ years of Rumba! And what a way to celebrate! Back-to-back sold out nights with the one and only ! The photos speak for themselves (and they’re saying a lot - so much positive energy both nights), so we’ll keep this brief. No, this is not Déjà vu! No, you are not seeing double! Due to OVERWHELMING demand we have added a second date for ’s return to Toronto: Thursday, May 14th (NOTE: since it’s a school night, doors will open at 9 p.m.)

We sold out of tickets for Gia’s first night almost instantly, but we couldn’t let our family down (especially on our anniversary). So, to celebrate our double digit birthday, we’re doing TWO nights of Rumba with Señorita Fu. Again: back-to-back Rumbas on Thursday May 14th and Friday May 15th. Both nights at our beloved home .

For all those that missed out on Friday tickets, we got you! AND, we’re bringing even more magic on Thursday by adding sets by Rumba family and ! Needless to say, Thursday tickets WILL sell out and they’ll sell out FAST. We’re trying to let you know to avoid disappointment 🫶

This month we celebrate Rumba’s 10th anniversary. More than a decade of Rumba. Every month. A beautiful and true labour of love and we literally wouldn’t be here without you 🫶

We’re definitely in our feels (in a good way) and we’ll delve into nostalgia and memories throughout the month, but for now let’s focus on the party 🎉

To celebrate a decade of Rumba it is our supreme honour to present the return of the Queen herself: .

Gia needs no introduction, but we’re going to sing her praises anyway. A Hong Kong-born DJ, music producer, and cultural researcher, she’s known for her deep-rooted work in Latin music, particularly salsa and its associated rhythms.

In addition to the worldwide fame she’s garnered for her electrifying DJ sets, she leads Canton Mambo 曼波, a multidisciplinary project connecting communities through music, dance, and cultural exchange. The initiative champions cultural dialogue and unity, with her single “Canton Mambo” blending salsa with GuZheng.

The anniversary celebrations are all happening on Friday, May 15th at our beloved home, . Tickets available now. They will sell out *immediately* (not hyperbole, people). So, get them quickly and come celebrate more than a 10 years of Rumba with us. We promise it will be a special night ❤️‍🔥

We’re running out of superlatives here, family. Last Saturday was beautiful (as it is every dang month!).

told us she was going to put everything she is and everything she feels into her set and she was true to her word. The care, and attention to detail, and LOVE she put into playing her records was something we ALL felt. And her unadulterated JOY was infectious (and you can see it in these incredible photos by Rumba’s official photographer .maker). Plus, she’s just wonderful people and mad cool. It was an honour to host her and we’re sure she’ll be back in Toronto sometime in the not-too-distant future 😉

And speaking of the future, we are officially celebrating Rumba’s tenth anniversary (double digits, people!) on Friday, May 15th. Thank you all for supporting us over the last decade (plus). We can’t tell you how much we appreciate all of you. We’ll be celebrating the anniversary with another VERY special guest. Tickets will be on sale early next week.
