Suzanne Sendel didn’t start her career in optical. She came to the industry after working in interior design and architectural sales management, bringing with her an eye for design, colour and detail.

More than a decade later, she’s travelled countless miles representing independent eyewear collections, built relationships with optical professionals across the country, and turned those experiences into her popular Road Warriors column for Optik Magazine.

But Suzanne didn’t stop at writing about eyewear.

Life on the road also inspired her to design her own eyeglass case, bringing together her design background and years of firsthand experience in the optical world.

Designer. Distributor. Writer. Road warrior.

Suzanne may not have started in optical, but she’s certainly made the industry her own. ❤️👓

A second act, handcrafted one frame at a time. 👓

After nearly four decades in the optical industry, licensed optician Douglas Gaudet has returned to the creative side of eyewear, designing and handmaking frames through his new venture, Beech Street Eyeworks and Accessories.

Working primarily with cellulose acetate sourced from Italy and China, Douglas lets the material lead the process, exploring unexpected colour combinations, laminations and forms to create frames that are truly one of a kind.

It’s craftsmanship, optical experience and creative independence coming together in a distinctly Canadian eyewear story. 🇨🇦
