THE CLASS
Through this experience, dancers will gain an introductory understanding of Bharatanatyam as an Indian classical dance form, including its origins, structure, and key elements. They will begin to recognize the interplay between movement, rhythm, and expression. The class will also offer insight into how Bharatanatyam has evolved and is practiced within a Canadian context.
ABOUT ATRI
Mid-career dance artist, educator & choreographer Atri Nundy completed her arangetram in 2005 after years of training in Bharatanatyam at Sampradaya Dance Academy under the tutelage of Lata Pada (CM, Order of Canada). Nundy has expanded her choreographic voice through works exploring Bharatanatyam within contemporary performance contexts.Alongside her choreographic practice, Nundy continues to perform, teach, and develop new work while contributing to the evolving landscape of Bharatanatyam in Canada.

THE CLASS
Centered on the roots and rhythm of Calypso, this session introduces participants to the essential footwork, waist and pelvic isolation, and expressions that define traditional Calypso music (movement). Beyond the physical technique, you will explore the rich history of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival, learning how song lyrics, social commentary, and West African Heritage shaped the music and dance style. All levels are welcomed.
ABOUT SHELLY ANN
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Shelly Ann began her formal dance training at the age of eleven with Les Enfants Dance Company. Her early passion for dance led her to represent Trinidad and Tobago at several dance festivals throughout the Caribbean, where she also shared her knowledge through teaching and workshops.
In 2004, Shelly Ann was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of the West Indies, where she pursued studies in Dance and Dance Education. She later received a second scholarship in 2006 from COBA (Collective of Black Artists), further supporting her artistic and educational development.
Through her work as a performer, educator and mentor, she continues to use dance as a powerful tool for cultural expansion, community connection, and artistic growth

THE CLASS
This interactive movement workshop introduces participants to African and African diasporic dance practices through rhythm, embodied learning, and creative exploration. Participants will engage with foundational movement principles, improvisation, and collaborative activities that highlight the connections among dance, music, culture, and community. Drawing from Caribbean and Africana performance traditions, the class fosters physical awareness, cultural understanding, and creative expression while encouraging participants to explore movement as a means of storytelling, identity formation, and collective engagement. No prior dance experience is required, and the workshop is adaptable for K–12, university, and community settings.
ABOUT SIMEON
Simeon Peters is a Trinidadian dance artist, educator, and emerging ethnographer whose work bridges African diasporic movement practices, community dance, and embodied research. He has performed internationally with UniverSoul Circus and trained at the Beijing Dance Academy and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Peters holds a BFA in Performing Arts from the University of Trinidad and Tobago and a Master of Arts in Community Dance from Ohio University. His research explores aesthesis as a somatic approach to Africana dance, cultural belonging, and identity formation through community-based practices rooted in Caribbean ritual and performance traditions.

Afro-Contemporary KasheDantek is a system of philosophies in performance and outreach linking Caribbean and African Diasporic sensibilities. It is the root source for all KasheDance activities. This codified curriculum is employed to train company dancers and students, develop our choreographies, and guide audience and community engagements. KasheDanTek incorporates Afro-Caribbean and contemporary movements, music, philosophies, and training techniques.

Award winning Dancer, Choreographer and Executive Artistic Director of KasheDance, Kevin centers culturally responsive art, space / place making & communities in his work.
