Another fun day of learning at MJKO.
07/12/2026
This past Saturday, we were so happy to welcome back one of our former MJKO athletes, Stephanie, who volunteered with us for the day.
Stephanie also brought along her service dog, Saint, who was an absolute superstar. 💙🐾
Steph shares with our athletes about what a service dog is, why Saint is working, and the importance of always asking permission before approaching or petting a working dog. The kids were incredibly respectful, curious, and eager to learn.
As you can see from the photos, Saint settled right in and our athletes had a wonderful opportunity to learn about accessibility, inclusion, and respect in a hands-on way.
Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing both your time and Saint with our MJKO family. We loved having you back, and we hope to see you both again soon!

🥊 Saturday Summer Classes are officially underway! ☀️
What a fantastic start to the summer! Our athletes kicked off the day with boxing, working on footwork, technique, and fitness before transitioning into coding, where they challenged their minds and built new skills.
At MJKO, we believe in developing the whole person—strong bodies, strong minds, and strong futures.
A huge thank you to our incredible coaches, volunteers, and mentors who give their time and energy to make programs like this possible. Your commitment creates opportunities that extend far beyond the boxing ring.
Here’s to an amazing summer of learning, growing, and building community together! ❤️🥊💻
CommunityChampions BuildingFutures TheBestInBoxing
Ten years ago, I was interviewed about receiving a Toronto youth grant and the work we were doing through boxing to support young people.
Watching this again is bittersweet.
The segment featured organizations tackling housing, youth sport, and opportunities for young people—issues that were important then and are even more urgent today.
What strikes me most is that, ten years later, we’re still having many of the same conversations. The difference is that the challenges facing Toronto have grown significantly. Housing is less affordable. Community organizations are stretched thinner. More young people are struggling to access the supports they need.
I spent much of the last decade pouring my heart into this work, believing that if enough people showed up, we could move the needle.
And while I know we changed lives along the way, it’s hard not to feel a sense of sadness seeing how much these issues have intensified.
Still, this video is a reminder of something important: communities don’t improve by accident. They improve because people care enough to keep showing up, even when the progress feels painfully slow.

🥊 June Update
It’s hard to believe we’re already in June.
While I continue to focus on my recovery, Saturday boxing has been going strong thanks to our incredible coaches, volunteers, and staff. I can’t thank them enough for continuing to show up for our young people each week.
To all of our students: I miss you, and I am so proud of you.
Not just for the boxing skills you’re developing, but for the young people you’re becoming. Every week you show resilience, respect, leadership, and kindness—qualities that will take you much further than any punch ever will.
Keep working hard. Keep supporting each other. Keep believing in yourselves.
We’re cheering you on every step of the way. ❤️🥊

Congratulations to MJKO Board member and Coach .j.zhang on participating in the annual fundraiser — an incredible event where police officers, firefighters, and emergency service members step into the ring to raise funds for and the important work they do supporting members of the emergency services community and their families across Ontario. 🥊
Congratulations as well on your victory! You had a very solid training camp, and it was great to see all the hard work pay off in the ring.
A big thank you to coaches , , and for all of the support, preparation, and guidance throughout camp.
We’re so happy to see you back in the ring fighting for a great cause. Congratulations again on the win, Coach Jimmy! 👏🔥
