Big on Beagles (BOB) Rescue is a Toronto/Durham Region-based assistance agency for beagles experiencing troubled times. We're here for the under-beagle.
Our focus is the rescue of senior beagles, sick, injured, and those suffering from emotional trauma. BOB is here to help the not so fortunate, i.e. abandoned special needs beagles including senior beagles - some with serious and/or chronic health issues, those in desperate need of medical procedures, those suffering from physical or emotional trauma terminally ill, the sad scenarios are endless. In a nutshell, BOB lends a paw to the under-Beagle in need of a second chance. Beagles entering BOB's program are usually coming from animal shelters that have not been successful in matching them with families, deeming them 'Unadoptable' to the general public. The kind staff working at these facilities will call BOB for assistance. Giving up on an unwanted beagle is not an option for these caretakers and BOB is always grateful for their phone calls. Sometimes, it's quiet on the rescue front and BOB can focus on its long-term care palliative beagles. Other times, the calls are pouring in and there are not enough BOB foster parents available. That's why BOB is always sniffing out reliable, dedicated beagle lovers who are willing to open their doors and their hearts to a down-on-his-luck beagle until a permanent home can be found. Fostering is not easy, mind you, but your efforts are rewarded tenfold when that beagle finds the perfect family - all because of YOU!!! On the other paw, if you own a beagle and can no longer care for him, you are also welcome to contact BOB. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can lead to such a heartbreaking decision. BOB will lend support and advice on how to find a new home for your companion. In fact, BOB may have a prospective owner looking for a beagle right now and your dog may be a potential match. The work BOB performs for the love of beagles is not without sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to the cause. Veterinary care for our beagles is expensive, but we make a promise to every dog that enters our program, ensuring the dogs get all they need right from the start. Even if you're unable to foster or adopt, you can still help by making a donation so that more beagles can benefit from our specialized care. Acts of Kindness always seem to happen for our little beagle repair shop this time of year when preparations for our BEAGLE BASH FOR CASH and Calendar Drive are madly underway.
People come along to help in any way they can. These Acts of Kindness keep us going when things get stressful and chaotic. They remind us why we keep doing what we do. They encourage and inspire us to never give up. All for the Love of Beagles in Need.
This is just one example… we discovered Ahu’s lovely shop while scrolling Etsy for some ideas on clothing designs in time for the Bash. We love her designs. And she in turn, created some just for us! No charge. She just wanted to help simply for the love of dogs in need. Bless you, Ahu! We can’t wait to share your designs with our supporters on Event Day!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Meanwhile, up cottage country way, camera shy Marmalade attempts to hide from the PUP-arazzi behind one of foster mommy’s pretty potted plants! But we see you! And we’re cheering you on because, slowly but surely, our sweet Marmalade is losing those dangerous pounds! She’s also showing signs of improvement with respect to the concern over potential Diabetes. The symptoms seem to be reducing, right along with those unwanted pounds, and we couldn’t be happier! ❤️

On the same day Clara was rushed to hospital last week, Dolly had her recheck at the TVEH and the results are in! It’s great news and we sure needed some of that!
Dolly’s follow up ACTH Stim test last week shows an adequate cortisol response which means her other Adrenal Gland is coming back on board! This means we can slowly taper her off Prednisone while closely monitoring her for any trouble with her cortisol production but it looks highly unlikely that will be the case!
Once Dolly is completely off the Prednisone for at least a month, we’ll want to redo her bloodwork one last time to ensure all previous abnormalities like her increased liver values and protein levels in her urine are trending in the right direction and then she should be good to go with her Happily Ever After life!!!
Saving Dolly hasn’t been cheap but she’s worth our current financial worries. Still, we’re holding out hope for more donations towards our DOLLARS FOR DOLLY Campaign so we can keep up with the Happily Ever Afters! ❤️

A heartbreaking end to the week. Our vet has confirmed that Clara Bow is in congestive heart failure. Although stable, there is fluid building in her lungs so her Furosemide has been increased to its highest dosage. Her life expectancy is now mere months. It’s not at all what we expected to hear. If only they could live forever.

We have the most incredibly GOOD NEWS to share with you!!!
The biopsy results came back for Dolly! Every single one - the Adrenal tumour, the liver mass, the mammary mass, and yes…even her nose bauble…have ALL come back benign!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️
We are so happy for our beautiful girl, Dolly! She is worth every single shiny Penny!
Of course, we’ve got some work to do recovering from all the astronomical medical costs and not only for Dolly. It has been a tough spring and summer for us all around.
We want to thank everyone who made a donation to help us keep our doors open for the next beagle that needs us. We really hope we can do that but only time will tell.

Back to school for kids today. Back to the vet’s for Clara-Bow…sigh. Showing signs of another Lyme disease flare up which may now be affecting her kidneys. Will have urine results later this week. Positive thoughts please!🙏

HAPPY LABOUR DAY!!!
Speaking of labour…wile we’ve been hard at work raising money for Dolly, a couple other big spenders had their post-spay rechecks which Esther unfortunately didn’t pass with flying colours like her bestie, Marigold. Poor Esther has had a relapse with her skin condition. Esther’s immune system must have been working overtime with recovering from the spay operation which is definitely a significant procedure, especially for an older dog. She’s now back on broad spectrum antibiotics and special soap to keep the wounds clean while we wait for culture sample results by end of next week.
Yep, there’s always something squirrely going on at the beagle repair shop! Oops! Bad word! One should never say “squirrel” in the company of beagles on the mend! One should also brace themselves for multiple kisses in the company of Marigold but this lovely vet tech didn’t seem to mind…it’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it! 🤭
