Repost from MUTAR

INTERVIEW WITH ⬤ aka_chang 張方禹 – CONNECTING SPACE, PEOPLE, AND ATMOSPHERE THROUGH LIGHT

“For me, was mainly about images, while was about giving those moving images a structure. The transition from image to structure was already a process of simplification. If you reduce even the most complex image to its smallest unit, it becomes a , a block of color. And whether it is shown through a screen or a projector, what we are actually seeing is light.

This realization pushed my practice toward other light-based media, especially those that can create what we call “solid light” in space, such as LEDs, moving head beam lights, and lasers. When an image is reduced to light, it is no longer limited by the frame of a screen. It also no longer needs to be clearly recognized as an image carrying information. Instead, light can become something more abstract and fluid, allowing it to build relationships with the space, the people within it, and everything around them.”

What if fries could be instruments? 🍟

This is an interactive visual & audio system that captures fries on paper via camera, generating beats based on different arrangements and altering pitch according to their length. The dancer‘s distance from the fries triggers sound effects. This performance system allows artists to control both visuals and music entirely with fries, without ever touching a computer during the show.

First presented this March at East Kowloon Cultural Centre EKCC, this piece was created in collaboration with Hong Kong dancers BOBBY & Ocean Wong. It also marks my very first performance production!

Special thanks to artist Keith Lam for guiding and advising our dance collaboration, producer Michael Lee for making everything run seamlessly, and the extremely professional and attentive technical team, sound engineer, lighting designer, and photographer on site.

Corey Schneider is a Berlin-based multimedia artist from Australia. He works with spatial sound, light, and kinetic sculpture, using generative systems as his medium. Code and custom-developed technologies shape his immersive installations. This results in unexpected structures and dynamic audiovisual compositions. The focus is not on the technology itself, but on cohesive narrative experiences. Schneider views the development process itself as part of the artistic expression. His installations create constantly evolving, sensory environments.

Recurring Dream is an immersive light and sound installation inspired by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville’s Dreamachine (1959), which used strobing light to trigger hallucinatory visual patterns through “interior vision.”
Recurring Dream expands this idea into a full environment: light gathers and dissolves in shifting forms, time drifts between acceleration and suspension, and a sonic field circles and folds around the space.(edited to post)

Repost from Davide Santini

I’m very excited to confirm that I’ll be speaking at Italian Touch, the TouchDesigner Meetup in Milan, on September 25 🇮🇹

Teaching TouchDesigner has become a big part of my practice. And the more I teach, the more I realize that there are hundreds of tools, techniques and possibilities, tutorials everywhere and new features constantly appearing.
So, where do you start?

In my talk “How do we learn TouchDesigner?” I’ll be sharing some thoughts on this, drawing from my experience as a teacher and from the way I’ve approached learning and teaching TouchDesigner over the years, and on why building a solid foundation can make such a difference when exploring the software.

And there’s another reason I’m particularly excited about this talk: something I’ve been quietly working on for the past few months is finally getting ready to see the light. Something new, but also somehow quite old.

See you in Milan 👀

Interactive sound sculpture for “Romantic Chopin” exhibition at Art Box Experience

The sculpture consists of copper sheets engraved with Chopin’s scores and divided into four interactive sections. Each section gives access to four compositions. Visitors select and activate the compositions by touching individual copper sheets.

Touch sensors send signals to a system built in TouchDesigner , which controls the audio playback. Only one composition can play within each section at a time.

That which weighs as a continuous field, that which all transactions happen all at once, all the time.

It’s an interactive audiovisual installation created for immersio 2026 with ‘pasar’ as the theme - by Filamen at GMBB | Creative Community Mall 🇲🇾.

Basically I just use we**am and script chop in TouchDesigner to detect the coordinate of the pixels and the angle of the needle of the scale to drive both audio (Ableton) and visuals.

I use minimalist ethics to bring focus to the scale as a focal point and also make it not to overwhelm the visitor. With particles and order in the audiovisuals making them feel as if they are touching the essence of the energy transferred when they are in contact.
