A window over the sink may seem like a simple detail, but it's one of those thoughtful design choices that can make everyday tasks brighter, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.

What small design detail in your home makes the biggest difference to your daily routine?

One of the biggest myths in decorating? That "new" is always better.

This TV room tells a different story.

Instead of replacing a quality sofa, we chose to give it a second life with new upholstery. The result is a room that feels fresh, inviting, and uniquely personal, while preserving the craftsmanship that made the piece worth keeping in the first place.

Growing up in a family with a long tradition of furniture making taught me that quality isn't something you throw away. When a piece is well built, it deserves a second look before it's replaced.

Sometimes the most beautiful rooms aren't filled with brand-new furniture, they're filled with pieces that have been thoughtfully reimagined.

One of the things I enjoy most about design is that it has the power to change how people live, not just how their homes look.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking at our Women’s Club about 12 key decorating principles that help people make confident, lasting design decisions. What began as a conversation about decorating quickly evolved into something much bigger.

We talked about investing wisely instead of replacing things repeatedly. We discussed how choosing quality over quantity can reduce waste and help keep more furniture out of our landfills. We explored why understanding scale, proportion, colour, and pattern matching creates spaces that feel timeless rather than trendy.

Good design isn’t about following the latest fad. It’s about making thoughtful choices that bring lasting value, function, and beauty to your home.

The best part of the presentation wasn’t the slides. It was the discussion. Seeing people connect the dots between good design, sustainability, and making smarter investments reminded me why I love sharing what I’ve learned.
