The Black couple who escaped slavery and started Toronto's first taxi company — then went back to free others.

Thornton and Lucie Blackburn fled slavery in Kentucky and built one of the first taxi businesses in Upper Canada, laying the foundation for an industry that still moves cities today. But that's only half the story — they used their success to help free other enslaved people through the Underground Railroad, right here in Toronto.
