Living in Toronto means you can spend the morning in one of the world’s most multicultural cities and, an hour later, be surrounded by landscapes that feel a world away.

That’s the kind of childhood we were hoping to give our boys.

Not just a place to live.

A place filled with experiences they’ll remember long after they’ve grown up.

Toronto has officially opened Honest Ed’s Park in the heart of Mirvish Village, turning the former site of the legendary discount store into a vibrant new community space with gardens, picnic areas, native plants, and a unique bird bath-inspired water feature.

Here are 5 Toronto neighbourhoods I see them choosing over and over again.

1️⃣ Liberty Village
Perfect if you want everything within walking distance. Condo living, short commutes, fitness studios, cafés, restaurants, and a neighbourhood that was practically built for young professionals working in tech, media, and creative industries.

2️⃣ Fort York
Downtown convenience with a little more breathing room. Waterfront trails, parks, and quick access to the Financial District.

3️⃣ Yonge and Eglinton
A favourite for those entering their next chapter. Subway access, great restaurants, shopping, parks, and schools make it ideal for both singles and young families.

4️⃣ Leslieville
Tree-lined streets, independent cafés, local shops, character homes, and easy access to parks, bike trails, and The Beaches. Perfect when you’re ready for more space without leaving the city.

5️⃣ Willowdale East
If you ask me, this is one of Toronto’s most underrated neighbourhoods for millennials. Great subway access, newer condos, incredible multicultural food, parks, community centres, and larger homes nearby as life evolves.

🏙️ Toronto’s skyline could be getting a major upgrade.

Plans for three new towers at the iconic College Park site have been recommended for approval, including a tower reaching 96 storeys that would become one of Canada’s tallest buildings.

The proposal includes more than 2,340 new homes, hotel, retail, and commercial space, while preserving the historic College Park building and The Carlu. Existing rental tenants would also receive replacement units and the right to return at similar rents.

More affordable housing could be on the way to downtown Toronto.

A new proposal at 306 Gerrard Street East would bring an 11 storey rental building with 228 homes, including 114 affordable rental units.

The project, led by Yonge Street Mission and its partners, would replace the existing site with new housing while continuing to provide community services at street level.

Because honestly...
North York isn’t for everyone.

If you’re looking for a small town where everyone knows each other, this probably isn’t your place.

If you want endless farmland, quiet country roads, and a slower pace of life, you’ll probably be happier somewhere else.

But if you’re looking for balance...
North York starts to make a lot of sense.

It’s one of the few places where I can finish work, meet friends downtown for dinner 20 minutes later, and still spend the weekend camping, hiking, or at a cottage just a couple of hours away.

One of the biggest surprises after moving here was realizing I didn’t have to choose between city life and nature.

I could have both.

As immigrants, another thing we never take for granted is the diversity.

Within minutes, we can enjoy authentic Vietnamese, Persian, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, and so many other cuisines.

Our boys are growing up surrounded by different cultures, languages, and traditions while staying connected to their Vietnamese roots.

Then there’s the convenience.
Pearson Airport.
World class hospitals.
Professional sports.
Museums.
Concerts.
Universities.
Some of Canada’s best restaurants.

It’s all close enough that saying, “Let’s just go,” has become part of our family’s vocabulary.

That doesn’t mean North York is the best place to live.
It simply means it’s the best place for our family.

And that’s the mistake I see people make when moving to Toronto.

They’re searching for the “best” neighbourhood.
Instead of the one that best fits the life they want to build.
