Shakespeare BASH'd
Shakespeare BASH'd is an artist-driven initiative that seeks to make classical theatre welcoming, inviting, and social. A "Bash" is a crushing blow.
We present Shakespeare's plays in social settings, creating a relaxed, exciting environment for the audience. It can be powerful and done with passion. It can be about making an attempt, going at it all on your own. It can also be a wild night. Shakespeare BASH'd seeks to synthesize the classical with the modern, to look at the plays from a place of curiosity, joy, investigation, truth, and love.

The Shoemaker's Holiday, by Thomas Dekker
November 8, 2026, at the Monarch Tavern
a staged reading
Written by Thomas Dekker, the great polemist and playwright, lover of London, and advocate of the poor, we are thrilled to present his greatest comedy: The Shoemaker’s Holiday.
The story of a humble shoemaker rising to become the Mayor of London, as well as the high jinks of his shop crew and the pursuit of lovers despite their families, all under the veil of a war with France.
This complex comedy of the great city of London is immaculately structured, showcasing the lives of shoemakers and their “gentle craft.”
----
Sejanus His Fall, by Ben Jonson
April 11, 2027, at the Monarch Tavern
a staged reading
The Roman world was both familiar and distant to early modern society, and the playwrights of the time loved portraying the characters, ideas, and themes of the ancient world.
This political tragedy, by the great comic playwright Ben Jonson, was originally a failure. But as the modern world has grown to reflect this tale of the emperor’s manipulative confidante, this amazing display of influence and rhetoric has become an integral play to understanding our own society.
