Set designer Gerard Gauci’s paintings are inspired by four key moments in Opera Atelier’s upcoming production of M.A. Charpentier’s The Descent of Orpheus. They will figure prominently in the set design for OA’s new production of Charpentier’s masterpiece.

The story of Orpheus has captured the imagination of great artists in multiple disciplines for thousands of years. Jean Cocteau’s 1950 film, based on the Orphic myth, continues to captivate and fascinate, as seen in this trailer. Using the simplest means, Cocteau managed to create some of the most iconic Surrealist images in film history.
