MPP for Parkdale—High Park.

09/08/2026

In the middle of the pandemic over 200 strangers joined the Neighbours Helping Neighbours Mutual Aid Network that I founded. Bloor West Food Bank was born from that time and has now helped thousands of food insecure residents.

It was an honour to bestow an Ontario Volunteer Service Award on one of the Bloor West Food Banks founders, Karen Allman. Karen, Mary Anne, Maggie and the team have made a difference.

We need our volunteers and it was so hopeful to see the thousands of volunteer hours being celebrated by the province.

On Wednesday September 23rd, 2026, community members and leaders will travel 1,700km from FreeGrassy: Grassy Narrows Solidarity to Toronto to demand that Ontario and Canada:

🔶Compensate everyone in Grassy Narrows fairly for the mercury crisis
🔶End the pollution by stopping the Dryden mill and ending mining and nuclear waste plans that threaten Grassy Narrows
🔶Support Grassy Narrows in restoring their community and way of life from the damage that mercury has done.

It was great to see new units of affordable RGI housing right here Parkdale-High Park that will be kept affordable thanks to Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust. Its fantastic and we welcome more of it.

Thank you to Bill Sinclair from TNG Community Services for the tour. TNG has done an amazing job supporting people through housing, employment, homecare, and more.

I'm calling on the province to do more to support the construction and restoration of affordable housing in our cities. This project lights the way.

Gloria Steinem spent a lifetime insisting that women's equality wasn't a side issue.
It was the issue. From the founding of Ms. magazine to decades on the
front lines of reproductive rights, workplace equity, and grassroots
organizing, she taught generations of us that power isn't given, it's taken, together.

Her legacy runs through the Canadian feminists who carried that same fire
here at home. Canadian feminists like Michelle Landsberg, Judy Rebick, Winnie
Ng, and Rosemary Brown, who was the first Black woman elected to a Canadian
legislature.

That legacy is alive here in Parkdale—High Park. Our community has elected strong
women, including Cheri Dinovo and Bhutila Karpoche, to represent and fight for our
province.

We stand on their powerful shoulders.

All of this didn't happen by accident. It's the product of decades of
feminist organizing on our streets. Gloria's work made it possible, and it's
ours to carry forward.

What a night in Scarborough South-West! 🎉
I’m so proud to congratulate Fatima Shaban on her incredible election performance and welcome her to the Ontario NDP caucus. The people of Scarborough South-West have spoken, choosing a fighter who will work tirelessly to make life better for people across Ontario.
I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated and passionate Fatima has been throughout this campaign, and I know she will bring that same tenacity with her to Queen’s Park.
Thank you to the entire campaign team who made this possible! Ontario looks so much better in orange 🧡

Thanks for the invitation from Cooper-Mills Gooch to their back-to-school BBQ! It was fun to hand out school supplies and meet excited students.

While kiddos are preparing to go back to school this fall, I'm preparing to return to Queen’s Park in October and fight for them. Education, childcare and youth employment, are all issues I hear so much about from parents in Parkdale-High Park. Lets make sure we're setting up our kids for the best possible future they can have.

Time to go vote Scarborough South West!

The last day to vote is tomorrow, September 3rd.

Fatima is a fighter for Ontario and we need her to join us at Queens Park to stand up to Ford. When I'm out knocking doors, so many people I talk to are excited by Fatima. They're inspired by her drive, her tenacity and her dedication to her Scarborough neighbours.

I'll be out knocking more doors this week. Hope to see you all out tomorrow supporting Fatima Shaban!

What a joy to join children in Parkdale for a day of learning. The Dunn Parkette Indigenous Garden was in peak bloom, with fresh flowers, tasty herbs and beautiful veggies! It is volunteer run and focuses on connecting people to the earth and our food.

We love our artists!
Congratulations Propeller Art Gallery on your 30th anniversary!

The Propeller Art Gallery was started in 1996 by OCAD students who banded together to have their own show and they have been “propelling artists
forward” ever since.

Through the ups and downs of COVID, the Artscape bankruptcy and the economic instability of 2026, this group has held firm to their vision and dozens of artist careers have been launched. The world is made more meaningful because of them.
