Learning about Toronto means learning from the people who know its neighbourhoods best.

For our recent staff retreat, we headed to Regent Park to connect with community leaders and organizations helping to build an inclusive and connected neighbourhood.

From our base at Urban Economy Forum powered by The Daniels Corporation, to our visits with Voice the Vote, Toronto Centre of Learning & Development, Mothers of Peace Regent Park and Green Thumbs Growing Kids, the day was filled with thoughtful conversations and inspiring examples of community leadership.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their time and insights and made the day so engaging and inspiring. Experiences like these deepen our understanding of the communities that make Toronto such a vibrant city. We hope you visit and learn about the community too!

Social connection can be found through a 2SLGBTQQIA+choir, cultural bazaar, adaptive sailing program, intergeneration cooking classes and much more!

Back to school looks a little different for journalism students across Toronto this fall.

Students at Centennial College, Humber Polytechnic and Toronto Metropolitan University will have new opportunities to get out into neighbourhoods and report on the people, issues and ideas shaping our city — working alongside Beach Metro Community News, The Bridge and West End Phoenix.

Why local journalism? Early findings from our upcoming Toronto’s Vital Signs report show that people who regularly consume local news are more likely to volunteer, participate in community organizations, feel a strong sense of belonging and believe residents working together can make a difference.

Local journalism doesn’t just help us understand what’s happening around us. It can help us see where and how we can take part.

Getting kids outside to play is more important than ever—and thanks to the generosity of our fundholders who established legacy funds with us, more organizations are getting the support they need to make it happen.

Building on the Free to Play initiative we announced in July, we’re providing multi-year grants to 24 more organizations, helping create even more opportunities for kids to play and connect with their local communities.
