🔥 One year into PM Mark Carney's government, Canada's environmental progress is being dismantled.
🌲 From climate policy to environmental protections, the consequences are real—and Canadians are feeling them.
🚨 As wildfires, floods, and extreme weather become more frequent, we need stronger climate action, not rollbacks.
📢 It's time to hold our leaders accountable and demand better for our communities, our economy, and our future.
🌎 The stakes couldn't be higher.

: Three young Canadians, alongside health and environmental organizations, are taking the federal government to court, arguing that Prime Minister Carney’s government no longer has a credible plan to meet its legally binding 2030 climate target.

Your home insurance just went up again.🏡
Climate change is why.
That equates to $533 more per year (in today’s $s).
Every year.
Out of your pocket.
And 1.5 million Canadian households can't even get flood insurance anymore.
The climate crisis is no longer a future threat, it’s an affordability crisis happening in our homes.
Our new report breaks down this growing crisis, connecting the dots on climate change and the affordability crisis - offering tangible solutions the government can roll out.

So the federal government wants your opinion on expanding the Toronto Island Airport…sort of. 👀
Transport Canada has launched a public consultation survey on turning the Island Airport into a massive jet airport.
But here's the catch.
The survey doesn’t ask whether Toronto wants jets. Instead, it asks about “optimizing airport infrastructure” and “future airport planning” — bureaucratic language that glosses over what’s really at stake.
The real impacts?
✈️ More air, water and noise pollution
🚗 Increased traffic and waterfront gridlock
🌳 Threats to the Toronto Islands and waterfront parks
🏠 The cancellation of thousands of much-needed homes
And the survey isn't even limited to Toronto residents. No postal code required. No way to verify who's responding.
Prime Minister Carney and Toronto’s federal MPs could stop this proposal today. Instead, they're testing the waters.
This is our waterfront. Our community. Our future.
We need Toronto voices to be heard — LOUD and CLEAR.
📖 Read our breakdown of the survey to see what's really being asked: https://environmentaldefence.ca/2026/06/10/the-federal-government-just-released-a-toronto-island-airport-survey-and-the-questions-arent-what-they-seem/
✍️ Then complete the survey with your eyes wide open.

Ottawa Released a Toronto Island Airport Survey - Questions Aren't What They Seem - Environmental Defence The federal government has made its first move toward putting a destructive jet airport on Toronto’s waterfront. Here’s what you should know. On June 8,
🤝 Today, we're joining with partner organizations to send a simple message: We deserve better.
⚠️ Canadians shouldn't be left carrying the environmental and economic risks of a new pipeline while wealthy oil companies reap the profits.
🏘️ Instead of investing in another costly pipeline, let's invest in the things people actually need: renewable energy, affordable housing, public transit, and a stronger East-West electricity grid.
🌎 Together, we're calling for investments that build a safer, cleaner, and more affordable future for everyone.
📢 Canadians deserve better.

Toronto’s waterfront is under threat — and most MPs are staying silent. 🛑
Right now, there’s a proposal to massively expand the Toronto Island Airport and bring commercial jets to Toronto’s waterfront.
Here’s what that actually means:
✈️ Constant noise and toxic pollution from Mimico to the Scarborough Bluffs
🏠 Thousands of desperately needed affordable homes — cancelled
🚗 Downtown gridlock made dramatically worse
🚣 Swimming, boating, kayaking, cycling — all at risk for the 17 million people who visit our waterfront every year
But here’s the thing: The federal government controls this decision entirely. They just have to say no. Yet most Toronto MPs are staying silent.
Toronto has spent decades and billions transforming our waterfront into a vibrant place to live, work and play. We can’t let that disappear. 🌊
👉 Tell your MP to say no to jets and protect our waterfront.
