🚧 A 10-lane highway through a protected nature reserve — to save the average commuter just 30 seconds? 🤔

That’s the Ontario government's plan for Highway 413. And the questions surrounding it are getting harder to ignore.

The proposed route would cut directly through the Nashville Conservation Reserve — an important ecological corridor and the last contiguous Greenbelt forest in Vaughan.

Even the government’s own experts think it’s a bad idea: Internal documents obtained by the Toronto Star reveal that the government's consultants preferred a different route, warning that this one would "maximize incursions into the Greenbelt" and "undermine the credibility of the entire route selection process."

➡️ So why did the Ontario government choose to ignore its own experts?

The answer appears to involve well-connected developers and a future subdivision that would have been compromised by the recommended route.

When a government ignores its own experts, overrules conservation authorities and chooses a route that benefits connected developers at the expense of protected lands, the public deserves answers.
