As we end September, we at Finding Our Power Together honour Su***de Awareness Month by continuing the conversation about mental health, connection, and healing. September onward, we remind our kin that you belong here, that there is a place for you in this world, and that you are never alone. We also recognize that supporting one another is a collective responsibility, and every single one of us has a part to play in creating communities where our people feel connected, supported, valued, and can access care in ways that honour who they are. 🧡
You can read our latest blog post to learn more about how FOPT addresses su***de awareness, prevention, and pathways to support.

🧡 Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are about more than wearing orange.
September 30 is a day to honour Residential School Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the families and communities who continue to live with the impacts of the residential school system. Orange Shirt Day began with the story of residential-school Survivor Phyllis Webstad. At six years old, the new orange shirt she wore on her first day at St. Joseph Mission Residential School was taken from her. That orange shirt came to represent so much of what the residential school system tried to take from Indigenous children.
Indigenous people, families, and communities continue to carry the effects of forced separation, colonial policies, and systems that were built to disrupt Indigenous life.
Remembrance has to become responsibility.
🌿 Listen to Indigenous people and Survivors.
🌿 Learn the truth about residential schools and colonialism.
🌿 Challenge governments and institutions to act.
🌿 Fund Indigenous-led organizations and services.
🌿 Change practices that continue to cause harm.
🌿 Build real, accountable relationships with Indigenous communities.
💛 Want to turn remembrance into action?

Support does not have to look the same for everyone. 🌿
Sometimes you need a space to talk things through. Sometimes you want support grounded in culture and identity. Sometimes you need someone to listen, walk alongside you, or help you figure out what comes next.
At Finding Our Power Together, Indigenous community members of all ages across Canada can access:
Psychotherapy: Talk with a trained mental health professional about what you are experiencing and what support could look like.
Cultural counselling: Connect with support grounded in culture, identity, relationships, and Indigenous ways of knowing.
Mentorship: Connect with someone who can listen, encourage you, and walk alongside you.
Support on Demand: Need support right now? Access brief support without completing an intake first.
For psychotherapy, start with an intake and we can help you find the right fit.

What does it look like to bridge gaps in youth mental health? Sometimes, it starts with making music together. 🥁🎶
As part of our Bridging the Gap project, the Finding Our Power Together team visited Community Music Schools Toronto for a hands-on training exchange. We learned about their approach to accessible music education and explored how music, creativity and play can support connection, expression, belonging and wellness for young people. In exchange, FOPT will be delivering training on Indigenous youth mental health and trauma-informed care.
These exchanges help community organizations understand one another’s work, build stronger relationships and create clearer pathways between services. Young people should not have to navigate disconnected systems by themselves. It is our responsibility to build the bridges between them.
Does your organization support Indigenous youth? We would love to explore how we can learn from one another!

Miigwech to Community Music Schools Toronto for welcoming our team into your space and sharing the power of music with us. ❤️

🌕 MOON LODGE IS THIS WEEKEND!!! 🌕
We can’t wait to be in ceremony with you. ❤️
Moon Lodge is a ceremony for Indigenous women, girls, and those who menstruate to connect with the ancestral practice of gathering during moon time. Traditionally, this was a time to step away from everyday responsibilities, menstruate under the full moon, seek vision, receive teachings, and connect with one another.
🌿 We have two more Moon Lodges this fall:
🌕 September 26 | 6 PM | Toronto
🌕 October 24 | 6 PM | Toronto
So if you’ve been thinking about coming to Moon Lodge, this is your sign! You DON'T want to miss this! 👀
🚗 Transportation, childminding, and accessibility support are available upon request.

🌿 What does it look like when we slow down to acknowledge what we’re carrying?
This August, we had the honour of spending time with the team at Ojibiikaan Indigenous Cultural Network for a team retreat and ceremony. As Indigenous organizations and helpers, we’re often so focused on caring for our communities that we don’t always get the chance to pause together and talk about the heaviness, joy, responsibility, and meaning that comes with this work.
Miigwetch to the Ojibiikaan team for having us and making space to connect. 🧡
💭 When was the last time your team reflected on what their hearts, bodies, and spirits are carrying?
🌿 FOPT offers a range of culturally grounded wellness services for communities and organizations, including team retreats, facilitated wellness sessions, training, and ceremony. We’d love to chat with you about how we can support your team.
