We want to give everyone an UPDATE on Piper. ❤️
We are relieved to share that Piper was hospitalized for intravenous fluid therapy and diagnostic imaging. Her initial radiographs were suspicious for a partial intestinal obstruction; however, repeat radiographs confirmed that the material had passed, and there is currently no evidence of an obstructive pattern.
Her primary diagnosis is severe gastroenteritis.
Bloodwork showed normal kidney function and a mild, non-specific elevation in a liver enzyme (ALT). A f***l sample was also submitted for a PCR panel to investigate possible infectious causes, and we are currently waiting for those results.
Given Piper’s history, a possible underlying food sensitivity or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is also being considered. We were also told that a littermate with similar symptoms responded well to a novel protein diet, so this may be something her veterinary team explores as part of her ongoing care.
Most importantly, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to Piper’s care. We are incredibly grateful for every single donation, no matter the amount. ❤️
Thanks to your generosity, all of Piper’s veterinary expenses have been covered so far, with some funds remaining. This is such a relief, as we don’t yet know what the next little while will bring or what additional care she may need.
We are so thankful to have a fund available for Piper should she need it. If there are funds remaining after her care, we will use them to help other dogs in our care who need veterinary attention.
Thank you all for standing behind Piper and supporting her through this. It truly means so much to us. 🐾❤️
A special thank you to the veterinary team at Port Hope Veterinary Emergency Clinic for their excellent care and to Bernice for taking Piper to her home until she is well enough to be transferred to her foster family.
🐾 Please help little Piper. ❤️
Piper is a sweet 4-year-old poodle who has been sick for several days. She is very loved, but sadly, her owner simply didn’t have the financial means to pay for the diagnostics and care she desperately needed. With a heavy heart, Piper was surrendered to Just Paws so that she could get the medical attention she needs.
Piper has now been admitted to the hospital and will need to stay overnight. Today’s testing revealed that she has a blockage, either in her colon or intestine. Tomorrow, we will know whether she will need surgery.
Right now, we are hoping for the very best for this sweet little girl. ❤️
If you are able to make a donation toward Piper’s veterinary care, any amount would mean so much and will help give Piper the chance to get the treatment she needs.
🙏 Please consider donating for Piper and keep this little girl in your thoughts. Every donation, share, and kind word helps.
🐾❤️ Come on, Piper. You’ve got this. ❤️🐾

Meet Amore, the little love story you’ve been waiting for. Amore is being fostered in Toronto.
At approximately 2 years old and just 13 pounds, this sweet black Chihuahua mix has a heart so full of love, she’s just waiting for the right person to share it with. She’s looking for a family who will give her the patience and kindness she needs as her confidence continues to blossom.
Amore’s favourite place is right beside her people. Whether she’s curled up beside you on the couch, tucked under a cozy blanket, or snuggled into bed for the night, she’s happiest when she’s close to the ones she loves. She’s a champion burrower, sweater enthusiast, and professional cuddle bug.
She’s making wonderful progress with potty training. She’s learning that outside is the place to go, and with lots of praise, encouragement, and a cheerful “you’ve got this!” attitude, she keeps building confidence. The same goes for her leash skills. She’s bravely learning that the world isn’t so scary, stopping to smell the grass, and when she feels overwhelmed, she’s perfectly happy riding in a stroller while taking in the sights and sniffing the breeze.
Amore is a sensitive soul with a heart full of love. Loud voices aren’t her style, but gentle people are her perfect match. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and seems to prefer calm canine companions. Cats are fascinating to her, and she may bark at them out of excitement, but she’s easily redirected.
One of her sweetest little quirks is that she’ll soothe herself by sucking on her feet. She’ll also steal your heart with her silly side, like playing with your hair. And when she’s especially excited to see her favourite people, she smiles. Yes, she actually smiles.
She may be skittish, but she’s incredibly brave. Every day she’s opening her heart a little wider, and she’s just waiting for someone whose heart is ready to meet hers.
Cupid couldn’t have planned a better match. All that’s missing from Amore’s love story is her forever family. Could it be you?

NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Pocket may only weigh 2.2 kg, but he is convinced the world is his lap. And honestly, he’s not wrong.
This adorable 1.5-year-old Chihuahua is being fostered in Toronto, and he is looking for the kind of home where “personal space” is more of a suggestion than a rule. Pocket doesn’t just want to be near his people. He wants to be on his people. If you’re sitting down, he’ll find your lap. If you’re sleeping, he’ll happily sleep right on top of you. Consider yourself warned.
He’s the kind of dog you’ll wish came with every outfit, because Pocket is happiest tucked into your day.
Pocket is incredibly sweet and absolutely loves people. He’s the kind of little dog who is game for anything, whether that’s the office, running errands, or relaxing at home. His tiny size and easygoing demeanour make him the perfect sidekick. He really is the kind of best friend who fits right into your life.
He’s very playful and loves tearing around the backyard, but he’s just as happy tagging along for short walks, which he does quite well on leash. He enjoys being outside, although we have a feeling he’ll have some strong opinions about Canadian winters.
Like any self-respecting Chihuahua, Pocket comes with plenty of personality. He loves other dogs, but he’d also appreciate it if everyone remembered he’s the star of the show. He can occasionally try to assert himself, and while he’s reasonably house trained, there are moments when he seems to decide the rules are optional.
The good news is that he’s not a barky dog. He only barks when there’s actually something worth mentioning.
Pocket can be a little unsure around children, so he’d do best with gentle, dog-experienced kids who understand how tiny he is. At just 2.2 kg, he can easily end up underfoot, so a family that pays attention to where he’s zooming would be ideal. He does great with stairs and sleeps soundly through the night—as long as that night involves sleeping directly on top of his favourite human.
If you’ve been looking for a pocket-sized best friend with a huge heart and an even bigger personality, Pocket is ready to steal yours. And unlike the things that usually disappear from your pocket, this is one little treasure you’ll never want to lose.

Meet Cheto! Cheto is the kind of dog who makes a house feel peaceful. This sweet approximately 10-year-old (this is an estimate) brown Chihuahua weighs just 4.5 kilos and has the gentlest soul you could ask for. Cheto is being fostered in Toronto.
Cheto is a little miracle. He was rescued while being attacked by several dogs, and it’s amazing he survived.
If you’re looking for a calm, easy companion, Cheto is your guy. He’s house trained, and has been so quiet that he hasn’t made a sound since arriving. He’d be perfectly suited to apartment living.
His favourite activity is finding a spot beside you on the couch, where he’ll be asleep within minutes.
Cheto enjoys leisurely walks and is wonderful on a leash. He doesn’t bark at people or other dogs, and he simply moseys along at his own pace. Right now he prefers doing his business in the backyard rather than on walks.
Cheto is great with other dogs, although playing isn’t really his thing. He’s so gentle that he’d likely do well with respectful children, but he’d probably be happiest with an older couple or someone looking for a quieter companion, since he’s not a particularly active dog.
Because he’s a small senior, he does need a little help getting around. He’ll need to be lifted into the car and onto the couch and carried up and down stairs. When you pick him up, he goes completely relaxed like a little sack of potatoes, so his person should be comfortable lifting him.
Cheto has never been left alone for long, but whenever his people step out, he simply settles down and sleeps, so he’d likely be comfortable alone for at least a few hours.
He’s one of those rare dogs who asks for very little. A soft place to nap, a gentle hand to pet him, and someone to love are all Cheto seems to need. In return, you’ll get the sweetest little shadow who will happily spend his days right beside you.

MEET TOFY — OUR SWEET LITTLE LOVEBUG!
Tofy is being fostered in Cobourg.
Please meet TOFY, a very sweet little girl who has just arrived from Mexico and is now ready to find her forever family. Tofy is approximately 3 years old and weighs 10lbs. We believe she is a mix of Papillon and long-haired Chihuahua — whatever the mix, she definitely got the best personality traits! She was a champ when seeing our vet.
Her foster mom absolutely adores her and says Tofy is one of the best dogs she has ever fostered — in fact, she says Tofy is perfect! And it’s easy to see why.
Tofy is:
Wonderful with people, including children
Extremely cuddly and affectionate
Friendly with everyone she meets
A true Velcro dog who loves being close to her people
Great with her two foster dog siblings
Great in the car
Doing very well with her house training, with only one or two accidents while adjusting to her new surroundings
Enjoying walks and doing quite well walking on a leash attached to her harness
Currently doesn’t seem to be much of a barker
A medium-activity girl who enjoys getting out and about but is definitely not a runner
Tofy loves attention and simply wants to be with her people.
What kind of home would be best for Tofy?
Tofy would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. We think she would absolutely love a home with a fenced backyard where she can enjoy some outdoor time. She would be happy to have a dog sibling and may also do well with a cat, although another pet isn't necessarily required. What she really wants is a family who will include her in their lives and give her all the love and attention she deserves. Tofy would make a wonderful family dog. We can picture her being adored by children who would love to dote on her — and she is equally happy soaking up attention from adults. She just loves being with her people!
Please note: If you suffer from allergies, Tofy may not be the right dog for you.
Could Tofy be the little girl you’ve been waiting for?
Tofy has so much love to give, and she deserves a very special family who will cherish her for the rest of her life. If Tofy sounds like the perfect addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application for her. We can't wait to find the wonderful family she deserves — a family where Tofy will be loved, treasured and truly cherished.
Good luck, sweet Tofy. Your forever family is out there!

Mitch is adopted!
Thanks to Elyse and Marc and family for fostering.
Here’s what his happy family has to say:
First my husband and I want to thank Just Paws and his foster mom, Elyse, for our wonderful new canine buddy. Mitch is absolutely perfect for us. He loves to play, play, play and then cuddles like a pro!
Our experience with the adoption process was very thorough but painless. It was important to us that even if we were not chosen, that Mitch would be going to a wonderful, loving home like ours. Of course we were absolutely over the moon to become his family!
It’s been almost 3 weeks now. He has settled in like he always lived here. Our beloved cat, Tuck, is starting to accept his new housemate, even checking out Mitch’s meals to ensure they meet his high culinary standards! We know the day will come when we will see them cuddled together on the couch for a cozy winter nap.
In just this little time we can say that we love Mitch very much and are looking forward to spoiling him rotten in the coming years. He has been assuring us that he is happy with us and our home as well. We are certain he is in love with us too!
Thank you so much for the work you do, caring enough to find perfect homes for furry little orphan souls. Everyone deserves a chance to live out their life surrounded by love and care.

Meet Finik!
This sweet 3-year-old, 11 lb Havanese mix is a bouncy, bright-eyed little sidekick looking for his forever home. Finik has come back to Just Paws through no fault of his own and is ready to find his perfect match!
Quick Stats
Breed: Havanese Mix
Age: 3 years old
Weight: 11 lbs
Location: Fostered in Mount Albert
House-Trained: Yes
Personality & Vibe
Finik is an independent, low-maintenance guy who is content doing his own thing without needing to be velcroed to your side. He’s a proud, happy leash walker who thoroughly enjoys his neighborhood strolls! While sweet and polite, he can be cautious around new people, fast movements, and unfamiliar indoor sounds until he gets used to them.
Ideal Home
Household Setup: Best suited to a quiet, single-story home (he hasn’t quite grasped upper-level sounds yet!). He thrives in a predictable environment with one or two mature adults. Patience is key while he adjusts to new sounds and routines! No apartments/condos please.
Kids: Adults-only home. The energy and excitement of children can be unsettling for him.
Other Pets: Polite with dogs on walks, he would do best living with an older, calm canine companion—or as a solo, independent pet. No cats, please!
Alert Level: He will proudly serve as your home's doorbell! He lets you know when visitors arrive or something exciting happens outside, but calms down well with a bit of reassurance. While never aggressive, he may express discomfort with a low growl when unsure—it’s just his way of expressing himself!
Grooming: Requires regular brushing and professional grooming to keep his gorgeous coat soft, healthy, and tangle-free.
If you have a calm space and the patience to let him shine, Finik will reward you with endless loyalty, quiet companionship, plenty of laughter, and wonderful daily walks.
Are you ready to welcome this sweet boy home?

Dolly is now Molly!
Thanks to Ellen and family for fostering!
Molly came into our lives and very quickly started to make herself at home. She is the sweetest, most affectionate girl who loves following us from room to room and making sure she is never too far away. She gives lots of kisses, loves being close to her people, and has a way of making us smile every single day.
When Molly first arrived, she was a little unsure of our young son and was especially cautious around him. We gave her the time and space she needed and never rushed her. Slowly, we watched her begin to trust him, and seeing that relationship grow has been one of the most special parts of bringing her home. She now seeks him out, shows him affection, and is becoming more comfortable and confident with him every day.
Molly also has a very playful side! She loves spending time in the backyard, where she has made it her personal mission to chase every squirrel and chipmunk she can find. She keeps us laughing with her little adventures and her determination to catch every critter that dares enter her yard.
We have enjoyed getting to know her and we feel so lucky to have earned her. She has brought so much happiness, laughter, and warmth into our home. Watching her settle in, let her guard down, and show us more of her personality has been such a rewarding experience.
Adopting Molly has reminded us that rescue dogs sometimes just need a little patience, understanding, and time to realize they are safe. The moments when she chooses to come to us, gives us a kiss, or shows affection to someone she was once unsure of feel extra special because we know they are signs of trust.
Molly has changed our family in the best possible way. Our home is a little louder, a lot more playful, and definitely filled with more kisses — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to adopt her, and we hope Molly’s story encourages other families to consider rescue and give a dog the time and patience they need to become the best version of themselves. ❤️
