The Ferning Cervical Mucus piece is finally complete and I managed to “simplify” it just enough to maintain its ferning integrity and also not destroy my lasercutting machine with way too complex of a file 😅

I framed this piece in a new layered shadowbox technique to mimic looking at a slide of a microscope. And I like the subtlety of beige on beige on beige 👌 because of the depth it gives some really nice shadows.

I’m planning for this piece to eventually be a trio - cervical mucus, menstrual blood, and ??? What should the third one be??

This one available on my website and I’ll have it at Cabbagetown in September to see in person ☺️

Xoxo

These two pieces were my first experiment with creating an anatomy motif as a colourful, multi layered piece. I reworked the colours from the originals to make them pop even more, and I mount the “frame” so that it’s raised up from the backing mat and creates a shadow. I like the idea of the heart and brain - the feelings and thoughts - being “held” carefully in a hand, while presented “on display” in an intricate frame. Conceptualizing these pieces took weeks and weeks of work - they are made to be treasured 🫀🫶🧠
