EST100H1 F Elementary Estonian I

Monday 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Wednesday 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Learn essential Estonian vocabulary, basic grammar and develop elementary conversational competence. Popular songs, poetry, and structured dialogue are among the various tools for achieving these objectives. Students will learn commonly used phrases and expressions used in everyday situations, from greeting people to making purchases in stores, and ordering meals in cafes. The course is designed for students with either no fluency or minimum fluency in Estonian.

Auditors welcome!

EST200H1 F Intermediate Estonian I

Tuesday 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Thursday 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This course develops the student’s language skills via an exploration of Estonian culture - including its music, literature, film and media. Each of these areas will be examined through readings, writing about one’s impressions, and speaking about them to others in the class. The course consists of a combination of both classroom and web-based learning. The course is open to students with some fluency in Estonian.

EST205H1 F Estonian Cinema

Friday 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

This course provides an introduction to Estonian cinema: feature films, documentaries, and animation films.

The topic of the course this time is: People on the move. We will explore a selection of films that include travelling, road trips, movement in sports, but also violent dislocations and deportations, all part of the Estonian experience. Taught in English, all films have English subtitles. The course involves each student watching some movies online outside scheduled classroom meeting times.

✨Thank you to everyone who came out to our Toronto Island BBQ! ✨🏝️

We had such a lovely time grilling 🍔, playing games🎯, and making s’mores 🔥! Perhaps we’ll make this an annual tradition? 🤔

A special shoutout to our volunteers and clean-up crew who helped us bring everything (and everyone) over on the pirate taxi and to clean up afterwards! 🏴‍☠️

Huge thank you to Estonian Central Council in Canada for funding this event. These sweet shots were captured by ruudi productions, who I’m told have another surprise up their sleeve 👀

-----------------------

✨Suuuured tänud kõikidele kes tulid meie piknikule Toronto saartel!  🏝️✨

Mis te arvate, kas suvine piknik peaks toimima igal aastal? 🤔

Täname südamest Eesti Kesknõukogu Kanadas (EKN) toetuse eest. Imeilusad pildid tegid meile Ruudi
Productions, kellel on veel üllatusi teile!

🪩😵‍💫➖Hypnosis Negative (Katariina Tirmaste - Estonia/Alan Mackie-Canada) – a psychedelic display of dance music the colour of the middle of the night and the texture of winding city streets. Fiddle and flute power a massive and fiercely danceable sound that sits at the unreal intersection of folk music, jazz fusion, and EDM, amplifying the spirit of old village parties through the loudspeaker of the 21st century.

🍯🐾🌿Honeypaw plays microtonal math-folk with the vision to create enchanting soundscapes inspired by their Finnic and Baltic cultures. Since 2019, Toronto based Interdisciplinary artists Jurgita Zvinklyte and Matti Palonen have been developing repertoire from early wax cylinder recordings and archival material dating back to the 1500s.

🇱🇻🍽️🕺Latvian Kitchen Party - A merry band of local musicians ready to make you sing and dance to some baltic tunes! They invite you to bring your instruments along and jam along :)

Summer is almost here and we're looking ahead to big events coming up! 🌞

Sign up to volunteer/attend - the deadline is June 16th! https://forms.gle/PQZ7BuQWG5UyGqQv5

*****

The first event is KESKUS International Estonian Centre opening 🎉 taking place in the heart of Toronto on August 20-23rd, 2026. With Estonian youth delegates coming from around the world, we're looking for youth in Canada to join us for the KESKUS celebrations and make everyone feel welcome in Canada!

In the week leading up to the opening (August 15-20), the Canadian Estonian Youth Network (KENA) and Estonian Worldwide Youth Network (ÜENV) will be organising some fun pop-up events and activities for everyone involved (including a picnic at the Toronto Islands!). 🧺🥂🍉Work with us to help introduce all the fun Toronto has to offer - your creative vision, presence, and ideas are most welcome! For example, coordinate a visit to a show or help us create a Toronto guide mini-zine.

The youth events culminate with an exciting KESKUS Noortekongress ('Youth Congress') 📢 on August 23rd which we kindly ask everyone to attend! More details will be coming soon (along with a potential name-change)!

Kotkajärve Metsaülikool (MÜ) 🌲🏕️⭐ takes place in the woods of Muskoka, Ontario, between August 24-30, 2026, in the days following KESKUS opening celebrations. is a unique annual week-long immersion program for anyone interested in exploring their Estonian heritage and nurturing their Estonian identity and language proficiency. The program offers an engaging line-up of lectures, workshops, folk dancing, sauna sessions, concerts, campfires and movie nights.
