The ADAPT dance syllabus teaching tools, encourage and trains senior dancers and/or assistant teachers interested in becoming professional dance teachers. The ADAPT Syllabus is the defacto dance industry standard of qualification for dance professionals. Dance Syllabus - an outline and summary of dance topics converged in one complete training program. ADAPT is a dance certification system for teachers to teach and train dancers of all ages. This dance syllabus helps all dance teachers and dance assistants learn how to motivate and guide dancers to create a solid platform of technique and performance. Let’s discuss the term Dynamic Ballet.
Some of you may have noticed that we have slowly been introducing and integrating the term ‘Dynamic Ballet’ into our vernacular to coincide with the term ‘Jazz’ when it comes to our syllabus and exams. At ADAPT, we believe in listening and learning from important conversations and being the change when it is necessary. We hope by leading these discussions, we can help influence the industry to do the same.
If you haven’t had a chance to listen to our incredible podcast episode with LaTasha Barnes, we highly recommend doing so to gain even more insight and education into this conversation as we move towards labeling our dance styles accurately.

Rediscovering Rhythm, Roots & Respect
Jazz dance is more than steps- it’s a living cultural tradition with deep roots in African American history, music, rhythm, and community.Over the past several decades, much of that story has been overlooked or rewritten, leaving generations of dancers disconnected from the art form’s true foundation.
Join Ryan as he sits down with LaTasha Barnes for an engaging conversation exploring the history, evolution, and cultural significance of authentic jazz dance. Together, they examine how the non-codified traditions of jazz- the rhythms, improvisation, social context, and cultural knowledge that have always been at its heart- can be better understood and brought into today’s syllabus-based dance education.
This conversation isn’t about replacing the syllabus; it’s about enriching it. By reconnecting with jazz dance’s authentic roots, we can bridge tradition with education and inspire a deeper understanding, greater respect, and more meaningful teaching in dance studios around the world.

The great syllabus debate.
As we get our 26/27 dance year started, we wanted to take a moment to start a conversation about syllabus work and its place in dance studio training culture. While many studios and dance organizations use a syllabus for many of their disciplines, there is often discourse from teachers, students, and parents about the relevance and/or importance of building those technical foundations.
